The first question I asked was ‘ What gender are you?’, which had the most popular answer of Female. The answer was also given a significant amount of males, thus I will make sure my magazine will not be biased to one specific gender, which will inevitably lead to a wider target audience.

The majority of answers to the question ‘do you listen to Indie music?’ was yes. This means that it may be predictable many people would be attracted to an indie music magazine. Hence giving me the confidence I picked the correct genre of a music magazine.

Do you listen to Indie Music?

The majority of the people that answered my questionnaire were around the age of 16 to 21, however the age of people fluctuated from eleven to fifty. Overall, I believe that my magazine should ultimately target the younger adult generation of around 16 to thirty, as the majority shows that most people around that age would potentially buy the magazine.

When asked ‘how often would you buy an indie magazine?’ the majority of people answered with fortnightly. Which is different to other leading indie magazine NME, which is published weekly. However, I will listen to the questionnaire and keep in mind the idea of publishing fortnightly.

What colours do you associate with the term indie?

The following question asked ‘What colours do you associate with the term ‘indie?’’ which showed an overall majority of the colour black, followed by red and white. These colours I will remember to possibly use them in my own colour scheme, in order to achieve the look of an indie magazine.

Would you be more attracted to a magazine if it contained free posters of a specific artist?

I then asked on the questionnaire whether the people would be more attracted towards a magazine if it was to contain free posters of a specific artist. The question was predominantly answered yes, giving me the idea to include not only a poster within the magazine, but highlight the fact there will be a free poster on the cover page. Using a cover line and possibly a subsidiary image.

Would you be attracted to a magazine if it included gig list-ings?

I then asked a similar question, highlighting the idea of a magazine including gig listings. Which was also answered with a majority of yes, showing me I may have to include a gig list, and be sure to highlight it on the contents page.

An open question that I asked on my questionnaire, surrounded the idea of words associated with indie. Many comments that I received included ‘independent’, ‘fresh’, ‘new’, ‘urban’ and ‘cool’. These words will all give me ideas on the actual words to use in my magazine, to fully suit and anchor the genre.

Another open question I asked was to name three of peoples top indie artists, in order to give me an idea on who to include on my front cover and contents page. Some popular ideas included ‘The Kooks’, ‘Artic Monkeys’, ‘Jack White’, ‘The Black Keys’ and ‘Oasis’. Hence giving me some artists to use for the magazine.
