1.

I asked 15 people in total,

8 girls and 7 boys

Page 3: Questionnaire results

2.

I asked a wide range of ages because I

know the music isn't that current, so older

ages will recognise the music.

3.

From this I found that pop music was most popular, then alternative and metal. I think much of „pop‟ comes under a large bracket, nowadays top 40 influences many peoples taste –but I fell dance elements to the top 40 are coming back

4.

I found that YouTube was the most common, as it is easily

accessible to a wide audience, as they can instantly watch their

favourite music video. It was then TV as music channels like

MTV often do „top 20‟ tracks from a certain artist. Of course

this appeals to a certain audience.

5.

This shows that the target audience watch videos monthly, this

may be due to an unmissable video, or a new release that cant be

missed. People often watched them weekly, since they were

watching television.

4.A plot line, not just standing there otherwise there‟s not much point in the video

5. A variation of scenes and costumes

6.Sexy ladies

7.I like the video to link to the lyrics

8.Originality

9.Iconic situations

10. Interest

11.A story line

12.Performance

14.Lip synching

15. Party

From this I conclude that people want to see action, interest and upbeat editing to keep the video exciting, most people prefer the hybrid video, which is most common in pop music videos. I will also include various outfits and costumes to keep amplify the lyrics. Like artist such as, Lady GaGa have done – this will keep it fresh and original

From this I conclude people want to see a hybrid video,

using both narrative and performance in the video.

With the different ways to get music, download is the

most common, as it is the fastest and most accessible

way to get music. Some people are still buying the CD

as it is also easy to take to different places.

I found a wide range of different bands/artists as people found it hard to chose between different genres and the various artists. The target audience research was aimed at different ages, not a specific type of person because I felt that was too stereotypical, personally I like all different kinds of music and don‟t like to narrow it down to a „type‟ – therefore I aimed to target different ages. This shows the variation of music out there and how even nowadays are still listening to artist like The Beatles and Velvet Underground who are not bands of this generation

10.

As I‟m doing a dance music video I wanted to see what the

audience wanted to see included in the video – I think by

putting in dancing it will successfully represent the music

genre

Overall From this research I conclude, that the many of the different

genres of music have a similar format in a music video,

performance, narrative etc. and that the way they vary from each

other is from the artist image. So I will keep the my artist image

prominent.

I have also found that no matter how old someone is they can

enjoy music from any generation, showing that to target an

audience is to do with age.

I will make my music video a hybrid and include different

costumes outfits, exciting camera angles and fast editing to make

it exciting, I will also give it an original element by not sticking

to the “stereotypical dance” video, this will give it originality

and crush the idea of stereotypes (in music)
