Ben Page Question 5 Questionnaire results analysis 1. Do you think the general appearance of my magazine represents a rock music magazine? If not why? For the responses to this question five out of the six people I asked believe the overall appearance of my magazine looks like a rock magazine. This is very good as this was the image I was hoping to create throughout the different sections of my magazine. This is good that it has created a sense of a rock magazine as the people who I am targeting my magazine at fans of rock between the ages of 16-18. Therefore the first step into attracting them is to create a sense of a genre that appeals to them; otherwise they will simply not buy the magazine. One person however said that it does not create the appearance of a rock magazine. The reason they gave this criticism is because they do not think that the people in the images are similar to that of what you would find in popular magazines such as Kerrang. However when it came to costumes for the people in the images, I had limited options so could not create the rocky atmosphere which the resources at big magazines such as Kerrang grant them. 2. Based on the look of the magazine do you think it will appeal to both genders? Out of the six people I asked four of them believed that it would not appeal to both genders. I can see this being a possibility as the colours used throughout my magazine are quite dark, which is a colour scheme which is often associated with the male gender, as women like more vibrant and bright colours. However the rock genre is also generally more popular amongst male audiences so it makes more sense to create an appearance which will be more suited to their specific desires. 3. Do you think the targeted age range of 16-18 is shown by how the magazine has been constructed?

If not why?For the responses to this question five out of the six people I asked believe the overall appearance of my magazine looks like a rock magazine. However when it came to costumes for the people in the images, I had limited options so could not create the rocky atmosphere which the resources at big magazines such as Kerrang grant them.2. Based on the look of the magazine do you think it will appeal to both genders?Out of the six people I asked four of them believed that it would not appeal to both genders. I can see this being a possibility as the colours used throughout my magazine are quite dark, which is a colour scheme which is often associated with the male gender, as women like more vibrant and bright colours. However the rock genre is also generally more popular amongst male audiences so it makes more sense to create an appearance which will be more suited to their specific desires.3. Do you think the targeted age range of 16-18 is shown by how the magazine has been constructed?Out of the six people I asked four of them believed that the targeted age range is reflected by the appearance of the magazine. With the images in particular and with the articles included I hoped to create something that would gain the interest of people from ages 16-18. The images included people from those age ranges and they were also well represented of that age in their clothing and also their general natural appearance.4. Do you think the main article I have chosen is interesting and will it appeal to the target age range (16-18)? If not what should have I included? For the main articles I hoped to understand whether people would find it interesting. Out of the six people I asked, four of them found the contents of the main article, found on the double page spread, to be interesting. This is good as if the contents of the magazine you are trying to sell does not appeal to the target age range then you are not going to sell any copies of your magazine. The people who did not find the contents of my main articles appealing gave the following criticisms. The article should have things more young people are interested in, and the second said maybe the article should be based on a bigger band. Due to the fact that we used our own images for the double page spread, I could not possibly bas e the article on a large band, as the images include someone who is not actually a musician. Therefore the images would only work If the article was about an up and coming musician.5. Look at the articles titles on the contents page, do you find these kinds of articles appealing and suitable to your age range? There were various articles that I included the headings for on the contents page. These included interview with Dave Grohl, The complete guide to rock music and the best drummer of our generation? Five out of the six people I asked found these articles to be something that the targeted age range could be interested in. This is why these were the kind of article headings that I chose. People from 16-18 are always interested in Interviews and new about the best musicians. Therefore I believed including articles such as these would be perfect for my magazine.6. Do you think the 1.99 price tag is appropriate for the target audience age range?Bearing in mind the target age range for my magazine I had to choose a price that would be suitable to the amount of money that teenagers from 16-18 have and can typically afford. Therefore I decided to choose the cheap price of 1.99, provided this magazine will be a weekly issue. Out of the six people I asked, two believed it was the correct price, two believed it could even cost more and the other two believed it should cost less. However when thinking about it I believe the 1.99 price tag is perfect for the age range, as this is actually a fairly cheap price in terms of most magazines.7. Do you think the colour scheme is that of a rock magazine and do you think has been consistently used?As a part of making an appealing magazine, the colour scheme must be appropriate for the chosen genre and also be consistently used. Out of the six people I asked four of them believed that the colours were appropriate and had been used consistently. Throughout the magazine I hoped to keep the colours consistent so it would look more professional, and when something looks more professional, it generally is more appealing to customers.8. Do you think the main cove line would attract someone of the age range into buying the magazine?Out of the six people I asked four of them believed that the main cover line Louis Dales Rise to Fame would be appealing to someone of the target age range. The article is about an up and coming artist. I thought this would be appealing to the target audience as young people are always aiming to be a fan of the next big thing. Therefore this would be something that they would want to read about.9. Do you think the images that I have included in my magazine are representative of a rock magazine? If not what could I have changed about them e.g. clothes, setting, props etc.

Out of the six people I asked four believed the images were representative of a rock magazine. Throughout them I hoped to create a sense of the rock genre. This was achieved through their clothing and the setting where they are seen. The clothes the people are wearing are very casual and are something that is often associated with the rock genre as it is a type of music that isnt very sophisticated and rock personalities are often seen to be mischievous and rebelling. Considering this I feel that the rock genre is reflected well in the images I have used, and will attract people who are big fans of the genre.10. Would you buy this magazine?Five out of the six people I asked said that they would buy my magazine. This shows that the different components of my magazine have been used well in order to create a sense of a rock magazine, and also to attract people who are fans of that genre and are also of the age range from 16-18.
