How did you attract/address your audience?

Question 5

The layout throughout the magazine is quite colourful and bright. It is simple and clean, which would please female readers as they are said to be more organised than males. The colour scheme is toned down on the double page spread to focus on the artist and the article.

I attracted my audience with the different types of font. Some are formal, but the front page as a whole looks informal in the way I have used many different fonts. The masthead is simple and recognisable, and contains two different fonts. It also has a purple dot over one of the letters to make it easy to recognise. The price for the magazine is

£3.25. It is a good price for a monthly magazine and it is not too much considering the audience is most likely not financially independent.

The writing style in the magazine addresses well

the audience. The language is simple, but formal.

Certain words are chosen to get the reader’s attention; an example of this is the

word “exclusive”.

On the front page, I have added a pug, saying the reader can win concert tickets. I have also listed a number of famous

bands and artist on the bottom of the page, so that

there is a bigger chance of the audience to find something

they like inside the magazine.

The photography is diverse. On the front page, the photograph is taken outside

during the day in natural light, the characters are smiling and it is therefore associated with happiness which attracts

the audience. The photograph has a natural feel to it. The photograph on the double

page spread is taken in an urban environment, so it has a tougher and cooler feel to it, the character also has a tougher

look. The photograph on the contents page is taken in a studio with artificial lighting and looks more professional. The I have different styles of photography so that it

will appeal to as many people as possible.

The colour scheme I chose for my media product was orange, purple and white. The colour scheme of my magazine is white, grey, purple and orange. Orange represents optimism, enthusiasm, fascination and happiness. Orange is associated with joy and has high visibility. Purple represents imagination and creativity. The colour symbolises power, luxury and ambition and is associated with wisdom, independence, creativity and mystery. The white is used to give the magazine a clean, open look which I think would attract girls because they are organised.

The magazine is not too word-heavy which will make it harder to dig into. I wanted my magazine to be entertainment for girls in in their late teens, so it is likely they are students and I have therefore made sure the magazine contains a lot of pictures and that it is visually appealing.
