Q5.How did you attract/ address my audience?

Page 2: Question 5

I have addressed and attracted the audience in a number of ways:Using direct address; both in the photos and in the language used within the magazinePersuasive devices such as rhetorical question and alliterationI have also employed some techniques of persuasion such as repetition.

On the front cover the audience is acknowledged by the use of direct address both in the main image and the copy. The main image is looking directly at the audience providing direct address this is important as it helps the audience to feel more involved as to what is happening in the magazine. The copy also conveys this mode of direct address as it is written in first person providing a conversational tone drawing in the audience. The ways in which this cover attracts the audience is though settle use of colour throughout the page , the masthead is written in bright red which will help to entice the audience. Contrasting colours have been used allowing the copy to stand out, these contrasting colours is eye catching to the audience. The use of superlatives such as “exposed” and “exclusive” are written in red allowing them to stand out, this particular choice of language forces the audience to believe that this is the only magazine where this information can be found persuading them to purchase the magazine.

Language devise's such as alliterations also help to attract an audience an example of this in my magazine is “ the Biggest and Best” where the “b” sound is repeated when said, it sounds almost as if the reader is trying to beat box where they make a beat using there mouth, this relates back to music which in turn reinforces the nature of my magazine as a music magazine.

The technique of persuasion repetition has also been used as the word “backstage” which I repeated twice, this shows the audience that the magazine retrieves information before there competitors therefore becoming the preferred choice.

Another way the audience are attracted is that the artist on the front cover is of a similar age allowing them to relate to her but however at the same time want to imitate her as she is famous and a well known artist, who is wearing their desired cloths

The use of the large numbers would also drat readers in as they would want to know what these numbers mean.

I believe the most effective way of keeping the reader engrossed would be through the website address, as targeted audience is using the internet more and more . It will also allow them to collect information on new issues.

The use of mise-en-scene helps to attract the audience, the artist is wearing traditional clothing this will help the audience identify with the artist.

However I have not used traditional clothes in all of the images used in my media product (e.g. in my contents page there is an image of a male artise in a studio wearing jeans and a hodied top.), this helps provide a more 20th century feel to the magazine helping to identify my target audience as individuals who are interested in both classical and more counterparty forms of Bollywood music.

The poisoning of the models hands represent the old Indian form of dancing Bharatanatyam (South Indian Classical Dance). The hand gesture used by the model is the lotus flower, which is opening and blossoming, much like the artist herself who is opening out of the cage of contemporary music as she mixes two genres of music together. The lotus opening and blossoming is cleverly relating to the young artist doing the same.

In my contents page I have also tried to attract and address the audience, I have done this by using: Direct forms address used in some images but also in the editorial.I have attracted the audience by using a number of images employed to act as visual aids of that the magazine entails.

The language used within the editorial is written in 1st person directly addressing the audience. Here I have started off by saying “Hey there!” this is directly addressing the audience which helps to draw in their attention and captivating them into the magazine

The visual aids used help the audience get a better understanding of what the magazine entails, this is also reinforced by the copy used around the images which provide greater details of that the magazine hold. All of this information gives the readers a more collective understand of magazine.
