To attract and address my audience, I took into account the questionnaire and interviews I carried out within my primary research in order to create a product that followed the convention of a magazine that the audience would want.

My questionnaire showed me that my magazine would aim to attracts a particular audience that is interested in indie or alternative music. I addressed and attracted the audience in this way through the inclusion of current alternative musicians on my front cover, this is shown within my cover lines, including artists such as The XX and Alt-J.

To attract my audience, I used a female model as the main cover star. This is because my questionnaire showed me that 21 out of thirty people would rather read about a female artist than a male one. I believe this does not limit the magazine to one gender readers as female artists are extremely popular and current at the moment within the music industry today.

I addressed my audience by choosing to release my magazine monthly. I feel this period of time between issues represents music magazines well, allowing more new news and information for the reader in each issue. This is addressed through the tagline of my magazine; “Britain’s Best Music Monthly”.

Question 4 of my questionnaire showed that the majority of reader would be willing to pay between £2.01-£3 for a music magazine. I chose to address this by pricing my magazine at £2.90. I feel this price is affordable, although it is at the higher end of the particular price spectrum, I feel that it needed to be due to the magazine being released on a monthly basis. This price also addresses my audience by being affordable, relating to the particular age group of my target audience being loosely labelled within the demographic of group E (unemployed and student) to those in C1 (office staff). Using audience psychographic research, the magazine and its content suggest the those Aspirers (interested in image and appearance) would be most likely to be the magazine’s potential readers. Considering Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Vinyl would fall into the belonging needs layer, with a great feeling of involvement and community between the magazine and its readers. I addressed this by including features within my contents page that create a feeling of personal involvement through the Editor’s note and the reader’s review.

I addressed my audience by focusing my double page spread article based on music rather than gossip. I also expressed this through the different features within my magazine such as gig reviews. My double page spread addresses my audience in a fairly informal, but professional and sophisticated manner. This is shown through the informative style of the article rather than a simple question and answer format. This suggests that the audience are interested in a more detailed and well written article.

I also wanted to attract my audience by choosing to focus on a solo artist within my magazine, as the majority of people who carried out my questionnaire would prefer to read about a solo artist rather than a group or band. This helps to attract my audience.

I wanted to attract my audience by including different magazine features. I decided on these particular features through the use of my questionnaire. The two prominent features that I and those who filled out the questionnaire felt were interviews and reviews. This is why I chose to include these feature within my product.

I attracted my audience by designing my magazine in a neat and organised way. I felt that this would make it easier to read as well as make my product look more sophisticated and professional.

I used a mixture of both candid and posed images within my magazine to address my audience. I feel this would attract a wide audience, pleasing both readers that want to see posed pictures and those who want to see more natural images.
