Question 4

How did you use media technologies in the construction

and research, planning and

evaluation stages?

Media technologies used in the construction

I used most of these technologies last year in my AS project when constructing it, so I have some familiarity with them. The blog is used for all four of these aspects.

Sony ‘Semi Pro’ recording camera:

We used this for all of our filming. It’s easy to use and light weight to hold. We had a fourth and fifth members of my group who weren’t in the video so they did most of the filming, though I mostly did it if I wasn’t in the scene.

Tripod:

Simply used to keep the camera steady. We used this for shots in which we wanted still shots though we quickly stopped using this as we preferred the edgy look with our music video so we started using hand held and steadicam more often.

Steadicam:

This is used by many professional film makers. This project was the first time I used a Steadicam and it was hard to balance out the wieght. It’s useful for tracking shots and it became very useful in the beginning scene of me walking out of the door and down the path.

Final Cut Pro:

This is a program used for editing which I use at college. It allows me to use an extensive amount of tools to edit the whole video. We first had to capture all the filming on to final cut pro and then cut, edit and put special effects on it like slow motion where needed.

Media technologies used in the research

Internet, particularly Youtube:

Used for research into other music videos and used for looking at conventions used in real life music videos.

Microsoft Word:

Used to type up essays, discussing other music videos and other digipaks.

Slide Share:

This was used as a variation on Microsoft Word. I didn’t want to constantly keep writing up evaluations in word as it would become boring and all the same. Slide Share gave a different side to it.

Music Channels:

I used these for initial research when thinking of an idea for my music video. It was easy just to watch them and gain ideas from there.

Reviews:

From reading reviews of music videos and articles, I could get a sense of what people wanted. The expectations of what people wanted also became apparent in articles and reviews.

Canon Digital camera:

Used to film the one to one interview I used for the in depth audience research. I simply held it while asking questions and while the participant answered them.

Media Technologies used in the planning

Script:

Presented through slide share to help the actual filming go more smoothly. Without premeditated structure, the video wouldn’t run smoothly and on time.

Digital Camera:

Used to take snap shots of locations and the group when we’re preparing for filming to show how we handle production.

Media technologies used in the evaluation

Canon Digital camera:Used in evaluation for the individual

audience feedback, much like the one to one interview. I also used the filming for my spoken evaluation to vary the mediums to make it interesting and interactive.

Microsoft PowerPoint Slideshow:Again, used in evaluation for variety

and more interactive. This allows visual representations to go along with the words as well and not just an essay written down.
