Question 4 - How did you use media technologies in the construction and research,

planning and evaluation stages?

Page 2: Question 4

The technology I used• To film our music video we used a Panasonic HD DV camera – this was very useful as it

recorded a clear and HD quality as well as accepting SD cards which were more time efficient than having to connect the camera to the computer for the video to be rendered on Adobe On Location. This helps me achieve a professional music video look.

• To capture photographs for my digipack I used a Nikon D60 DSLR camera which also gave me clear pictures I could use for my promotion package. It was useful in the way that I could choose not to have much of the background in focus

but I could have the main character in focus to show the main focus on the character throughout my main task and ancillary texts.

• I used Adobe Photoshop to edit my pictures for my digipack and to create my digipack and digipack advert.

I definitely think that my print work heavily proves the Technological determinism theory . I think this because the new technology of Photoshop determined my skill to create patterns to use for my digipack as well as introducing different filters I could use- and without this I would not have been able to achieve the look I wanted for my print work. Therefore I think technology did have the main say in my production work and final creations.

Using Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Photoshop helped me prove the technological determinism theory due to how much manipulation I could create when putting together my music video such as blurred effects and different speeds , as well as creating my animatic storyboard and print production work. This made using technology an important factor for my construction, research, planning and evaluation stages.

Therefore Adobe products were extremely useful for my promotion pack as it meant that I could use the technology skilfully to create my finished product, print work and even planning and research materials such as storyboards.

The use of Media 2.0 and software• Media 2.0 helped me be more creative by pitching ideas and planning/researching

ideas for my main product and ancillary texts. I used Facebook and Twitter to gain feedback for my print work as well as help in researching my target audience.

• Therefore Media 2.0 helped introduce interactivity with my target audience to gain feedback and help for my coursework by using social networking such as Twitter and Facebook to interact with them especially in the research and planning process.

• This meant that it was easy to respond to feedback as well as gaining interactivity and passivity with the target audience by asking my target audience questions and feedback.

However, what hindered my creativity was the budget of our music video which meant that we couldn’t use many camera effects or special effects until it came to editing on Premiere Pro. On the other hand I think my group and I were creative with technology when we filmed close up’s of the character’s running as well as spinning shots.

We managed to communicate with the artist’s by using emailing to gain permission to use their song for our music video coursework.

Blogger was extremely useful to present my coursework as it allowed me to use flexible and creative ways to present blog posts throughout all stages of my coursework.

• Obviously my production would have looked more professional if there was more access to professional editing software as well as studios and professional lighting kits. However I still think that I have achieved a professional look without using professional editing and filming technology.

• Media 2.0 shows how globalisation can affect my product- such as feedback on social networking as well as using blogger to present my coursework.

• I think that Media 2.0 and the technology I have used throughout my research, planning , construction and evaluation process definitely had a huge say – as I don’t think I would have reached the results I have without it. Therefore I consider it as an important factor of the whole process.
