Question 3

15
Stage 1 In this stage we had to collect a feedback for our initial ideas, magazine cover, poster and story board for our teaser trailer from different people including our class mates, group members and independent feedback from our friends, teachers. We did this by using our questionnaire and feedback form also by doing one to one interviews with teachers of different age and students with independent opinion who don’t know much about media. The reason why we made one to one interviews with teachers because some of them are media and drama teachers and know a lot about this, so their feedback helped us to choose an initial idea. We made sure when we gave out our feedback form about poster and magazine cover that there are students who do media and know how poster and magazine cover should look like and those who don’t do media and don’t know anything about it so we get an objective feedback from both categories of students.

Stage 1

In this stage we had to collect a feedback for our initial ideas, magazine cover, poster and story board for our teaser trailer from different people including our class mates, group members and independent feedback from our friends, teachers.

Initial ideasAs a group we all wrote our individual initial idea and scenario for each one. In order to find out whose scenario is the best we discussed it between our group members and asked our media class members to tell their own opinion about each initial idea. The criteria's we used to find out the best scenario is that it should be something new which we haven’t seen in Hollywood movies, it shouldn’t be a common scenario which everybody have seen hundred of times and already know the ending, it shouldn’t be the film that we wouldn’t make because of lack or resources. We didn't go for any of our initial ideas, this is because we believed that Metjon and Fatima's drama scene was more stronger than any of our ideas so together we wrote a scenario.

Page 3: Question 3

Magazine coversThese were the sketches we did for our idea’s for the magazine covers. We had few ideas and already knew which one will win however we didn’t expect that the last magazine cover would win, we think this happened because it was sketched a lot better than others but in our opinion the 4th magazine cover sketch was a lot better and we actually did something similar in our final magazine cover but we decided to use ‘Sight & Sound’ logo and structure. The only similarity is that the main character Metjon is standing in front of the audience but everything else is different.

Page 4: Question 3

PostersEach member of the group sketched their own poster and some even did two, but in order to find out the best one we asked different students to write positive and negative sides of each of the poster and rate it out of ten, then we added up all the marks and found out that 5th poster has won but poster one got one point less that poster 5, we discussed within our group which poster to choose and decided that poster one will fit a lot better to our scenario and magazine cover, another reason why we chose poster one is that it’s a lot easier to create than poster 5 with an eye and people inside of it, we didn’t have necessary Photoshop skills to do it. Our final poster looks the same as this sketch but the only thing we changed is font and cover lines.

Stage 2

In stage 2 we show feedback that we have received after showing our first variants of our work. This made us easier to

decide how to improve our trailer, magazine cover, poster. This feedback helped us with deciding which font colour to use and

what to add or get rid off.

Page 6: Question 3

Animatic StoryboardWe have created an animatic storyboard, which explains the structure and the idea of our trailer, we showed there the angles which we are going to use, editing techniques, soundtrack. Our classmates gave us feedback what they liked and what not so it really helped us with our final product where we got rid off some scenes, used better editing, font.

Page 7: Question 3

PosterWe have already knew what we want and followed our poster sketch and it did come out great from the first attempt. We decided to leave background white because it looks very stylish and fits our font. In the first version of our poster we didn’t have feedback from famous film critiques companies, we added it in order to fill in this empty space as it didn’t look right and lots of film production companies do it. We received a very positive feedback from our teachers and classmates.

Magazine CoverHere are the different stages of our magazine cover, in our first variant we wanted to make a close up of Metjon’s face in our magazine cover but this idea failed because of bad looking background and it didn’t fit any of the magazine structures, we would have difficulties writing cover lines and pugs there and it also didn’t look professionally made. So we decided to choose Metjon standing and looking at the audience with evil look. It perfectly fits ‘Sight & Sound’ magazine cover. In order to make an emphasize on Metjon rather than background we have blurred background and made this ghosting

effect in Photoshop. We added banner to the bottom part of the magazine and cover lines to the left side. We received lots of positive feedback about our final magazine cover and everyone agreed that it’s a lot better than first variant.

Final trailerHere are some screen grabs of our final thriller trailer in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, however both groups had the same problem because we filmed our trailers with cheap camcorders where audio quality came out pretty bad specially if we playback trailer with very high sound volume we can hear fuzziness. Also we got rid off some unnecessary scenes there which were in our storyboard. We received very positive feedbacks from both teachers and classmates.

Final: Poster

This was the final version we decided to go with for our final poster. It fits in with all the conventions and the colour’s and fonts also link in well with our trailer and the magazine cover.

Feedback

Page 15: Question 3

AnalysisThe feedback we received throughout the coursework was both positive and negative, we agree with most comments but with some no. Feedback from teachers, media class students and peers that don’t do media helped us with deciding which initial idea to choose, magazine cover and poster. Our first initial idea was very common and predictable and feedback from different people made us write a new scenario but together as a group which everyone liked. The feedback we received for our final versions was very predictable for us. Mostly we received positive feedbacks because we listened what people said about our first versions of work and made all corrections according to their feedback. For example shots were too long so we edited in such way that shots change very quickly. We received bad feedbacks about our first version of magazine which made us to go and take another photographs and start everything again.
