Question 2 of my Evaluation How does your media product present particular social groups?

Page 2: Question 2 of my evaluation

My front cover presents social groups in a very positive way. For example:

My front cover star photo is of a young teenage boy who has obviously put himself out there and created a name for himself through being so outgoing and proactive. Because of this it inspires other people to follow in his footsteps to achieve the same as he has. Therefore this presents teenagers in a very positive and attractive way as people will aspire to be like them for all of the right reasons. My magazine presents a large ethnic group of English people . For example, it’s wrote in English and the main bands presented on front cover were produced in England, yet are known globally. This present the English ethnic group in a very positive and inspirational way for being a very successful nation for producing popular music world wide. My magazine also presents indie and trendy people/artists in a very positive way as they are presented to be very normal and down to earth, for example, a quote from the cover star says ‘I wouldn’t be here without my fans’. This shows him to be a very appreciative person and grateful for what he has.

How it represents different social groups on my contents page…

On my contents page, I used a photo of a boy. I did this to attract my desired audience, teenage boys. by included this, it makes boys want to read the article more so than if it was an article about a girl as they can relate to it more. I used mainly male bands on my contents page such as: Bastille, The Artic Monkeys, Two Door Cinema Club and AC/DC. I did this for the same reason. Also, like the front cover, the majority of the articles are about bands and artists form England. This gives England a very positive reputation.

How it represent different social groups on my double page spread….

Like my front cover star, my double page spread photo is of a young teenage boy. The fact that he is so young goes against society’s negative impression that they have on ‘youths’. It goes against the negative look because he’s so polite, cheeky and ordinary. When it comes to gender, my magazine is very male dominated as my cover star and my double page spread interviewee are male. This gives a negative look on the female gender as they seem to be not as successful as the male artists. I did this because the audience for my magazine are teenage males therefore it attracts them more. I interviewed a band member from a band produced and formed in England. This makes England seem to be very successful for making music.
