Question 2

How does your media product present particular social groups?

RepresentationA mutual stereotype of how a character is

portrayed in films. With his/her age, gender, social class or ethnicity.

This can be shown through the character’s personality, costume, situation or location they are in.

TOM WILSON

Tom is supposed to be a misunderstood and lonely

teenager. It is clearly shown that he is that type of

character because of how he walks, visiting an isolated

area alone looking quite suspicious.

Tom is supposed to be from a the lower class society so therefore his clothing like his hoodie and tracksuit bottoms shows that he is in a difficult situation. He also has that look that people would classify as a “chav” which would make people think that he has a bad background and that he must live in harsh conditions.

MILES WILSON

Since Miles is related to TOM they would be in the same living

conditions. However he is a few year older than Tom. So therefore

we decided to have the same costumes as Tom but the only

differences is that Mile haves a hew more articles of clothing to

show that he is able to afford them.

And looking at the character, his chains on his trousers and

with his hoodie up makes him look quite aggressive. That

audience are most likely to associate him being in a gang or

some sort.

DetectivesStereotypically, people would imagine a detective to have some sort of trench coat, a hat and a magnifying glass. However that is in a different era.

For a more modern feel, we decided

that we would keep the conventional

trench coat and add in the clinical

gloves and a notebook in hand.

Forensic Scientists

A crime scene won’t be complete without the forensic scientists. They are a key to find out what the next clue is.

We decided that in order to show the audience that we have forensic scientists in the scene, we prepared a couple of forensic suits, masks, gloves and a camera as a prop.

With the masks, we are also able to hide the murderer’s identity. This also gives us a chance to reveal him at the same time.
