QUESTION 2- HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR

SOCIAL GROUPS?

ANTAGONIST • I played the role of the antagonist in the opening sequence, she

wanted to inflict pain to her body. This represents some social groups within society today because a lot of people cut their wrists they do this because normally they are under a lot of pressure and are stressed, either school work, family problems or things much worse.

• A lot of people that do it have mental illnesses but in this situation she does it because she forgets about the pain mentally and only feels the physical pain this is a short block of what still haunts her.

• Clothing links in with this because she always has her arms covered, therefore the audience may assume this. An example of this sort of behaviour is in another film called ‘Orphan’, she also hides her scars by having ribbons round her neck and wrists she does this so none of her foster parents known. We used this in our opening sequence because all of this relates to the type of genre, psychological horror it is all about her mysterious behaviour.

STEREOTYPE• The fact that she is a girl is a weakness, as girls are

known to be more vulnerable than men and stereotypically using a girl is slightly better than using a boy in this scenario as the audience will be more aware of cases including girls. In the film ‘Orphan’ this is also used, the girl makes the parents feel sorry for her. She tries to make the father turn against the mother but the father doesn’t see it. We chose to use a girl because it creates more emotion.

MAKE-UP• The make-up me and Charlotte chose to do on me was make

my eyes look darker, this could suggest to the audience that I am fatigued and it also shows how the character is negligent about her looks. We chose to do this because it would make slightly more sense to the audience if they don’t understand the story line, as they can immediately tell that something is wrong.

• The fact that the characters hair was up shows that she is trying to make out she is ‘normal’ to other people. This relates to the society today because people don’t want to be seen as weird or strange, they just want to fit in with others. Although she has bags under her eyes she is trying to show her normality in other ways.
