Transcript of question 1 - part 2
Stereotypes' Stereotypes are created throughout the trailer by costumes and storylines
THE BOYFRIEND STEALER
INOCCENT GIRLFRIEND
PLAYER
Bella
SambucaArchie
The Murderer
The all black costume and black gloves creates a stereotype of a typical murderer in TV soaps
The little makeup and casual clothing makes her look young and innocent creating that innocent girlfriend stereotype who doesn't realise that she is being cheated on
The large amount of makeup and glamorous clothing makes her a typical stereotype boyfriend stealer as she wants to attract attention by the way she looks
The fact he knows he is good-looking and takes pride in his appearance e.g. nice clothes, gelled hair as well as the storyline creates a stereotypical player
Q1. In what ways does your product USE, DEVELOP or CHALLENEGE existing codes and conventions?
This is an over the shoulder shot, this is used to show the reaction of these two characters.
This is shot is called a tracking shot or a pan, this is used to follow movements of a character. This shot has been used to cause tension to make it clear that someone is watching.
The close up shot allows the audience to see the characters emotions and reactions only as there is very little background in the frame
The two shot it expresses the relationship between the 2 characters
Over the shoulder shot Two Shot
Tracking Shot Close-up Shot
The long shot makes the audience understand the relationship between the character and the environment.
The mid shot allows the audience to the characters motivation in the narrative and they are now able to see the characters reactions closer, also there body language.
The mid shot works as a reference for the point of view shot
The audience then sees the point of view shot , the purpose of this shot is to engage the audience with he characters motives
Q1. In what ways does your product USE, DEVELOP or CHALLENEGE existing codes and conventions?
Mid Shot Long Shot
Point of view shot
Q1. In what ways does your product USE, DEVELOP or CHALLENEGE existing codes and conventions?I have picked out some shots from one of E4s main programmes “Skins” to show some of the similarities of the shots and how they show the same meaning in the shot. As Skins inspired my trailer
The shot is an over shoulder shot to catch the other characters reaction
These shots are in the same location, the same angle at eye-level and both have natural light showing to he audience it is morning
These shots are the same as they both has they have there full body length in the shot and there both walking away into a long shot
Q1. In what ways does your product USE, DEVELOP or CHALLENEGE existing codes and conventions?I have compared different shots and storylines of the most popular of E4s programmes to mine, to see the similarities as we both have the same target audiences
These shots are both mid close up and show a relationship, the male character is the one holding the girl in showing there dominance in the shot
These shots are both tracking shots as the camera is flowing the characters as though someone is watching them, they are both also in the same location.
These shots are the same as it shows one female character hitting the other across the face, this shows they also have the same storyline of cheating.
Brand Identity
ComparisonsSkins title card at the end of the programme Hilltop farms title card at the end of the programme
Emmerdale Hilltop Farm
Both have the same posh, countryside location
Even though I chose the brand “E4” to brand my trailer as I want to aim “Hilltop Farm” at the same target audience, but as I had done some research of Emmerdale I realised that it could be inspired by Emmerdale and almost look like Emmerdale with the same location and surroundings
Q1. In what ways does your product USE, DEVELOP or CHALLENEGE existing codes and conventions?
Similar surroundings and location
Similarities between Emmerdale and Hilltop Farm•They were both located in the countryside, with lots of land, trees and wealth.•Both have a good use of natural lighting• They both have similar storylines as most soaps do.
