Queen (The Band) They’ve taken the

word ‘Queen’ and created an image in the music industry.

Page 4: Queens

AnalysisIt’s a photograph taking from one of Queen’s

live shows. It is quite an iconic image as Freddy Mercury is wearing a crown and

cloak to show he is like the Queen and that he has a significant amount of power

(whether its in the music industry or over people). The photo makes you think of

power because of the lights behind him, how he is standing in the centre of the picture and the camera is angled from

below him.

Page 5: Queens

Queen Boadicea When we think of

“Queens” we think a woman who has power, wealth and royalty. However Queen Boadicea goes against the stereotype as she only got her power from making herself masculine.

Page 6: Queens

Analysis This picture is a painting of Queen Boadicea.

She is the central figure in the painting so you are drawn to her and her power over all the other people in the painting. She also is

standing on something sp she is raised above all the other people in the photo this too shows her power. The photo makes you think of both masculinity and femininity as she is wearing a dress and looks feminine

but is also holding a spear which makes her personality more masculine.

Page 7: Queens

Queen Victoria

Queen Victoria kept her femininity through out her reign but she remained powerful as the Queen and lived up to her status.

Page 8: Queens

AnalysisThis picture is a painting of Queen Victoria. In

the painting she looks young so she may not have been the queen when it was painted. In this painting she looks very submissive

as the colours are very pastel. However she (or her family) obviously has power and wealth as she has had a painting done of

her.

Queen Seon Deok of Korea (606-647)

She was the first female Queen of Korea. She must of been powerful enough and interesting enough as she has been written about in books and television.

Page 10: Queens

Analysis The photo is a publicity photo promoting a TV

series about Queen Seon Deok of Korea. Therefore the photo is somebody else

interpretation of what she was like. This photo connotes wealth and power as the

main colours in the photo are gold ands red she is also sat on a thrown and in a royal

gown and wearing a crown.

Page 11: Queens

RuPaul

RuPaul gained his power and wealth from making himself more feminine.

Page 12: Queens

AnalysisThis is a photo that advertises a company that

produces glasses. The pink stars add to the femininity of the photo and they draw

attention to her/him. The photo was taken to represent a different group of people who aren’t usually targeted in advertising. You don’t necessarily think of power when you

look at the photo however the meaning behind the photo shows power because the photo is of a Drag Queen which gives other

people (or the audience) a sense of achievement in what RuPaul has created.

Queen Latifa

Queen Latifa has gained her power through her success as a singer/actress. She is now an iconic figure and represents many people.

Page 14: Queens

AnalysisThis is a photo of one of Queen Latifa’s early

albums. As the photo is from before she was well known she is trying to make a brand image for herself by wearing a crown and looking regal also the logo makes us think

of royalty. The photo has interesting lighting as it is mostly dark apart from the light on her face and hands, this draws us to her and immediately puts the audiences

focus to her face. The position she is standing in connotes that she is in control

and is preaching to the audience.

Page 16: Queens

jewellery which represents wealth.
