OR REVERSE CIRCULATION DRILLING (RCD). FOR EXCAVATION IN MARBLE, ONLY
RCD WILL BE ALLOWED. DURING EXCAVATION OF BORED PILE, TOLERANCE FOR
VERTICALITY SHALL BE FREQUENTLY CHECKED BY CHECKING THE VERTICALITY OF
TEMPORARY STEEL CASING OR THE DRILL ROD OF RCD, OR BY VISUAL INSPECTION
OF THE CRANE CABLE DURING GRABING IN SOILS.
5. BORED PILES SHALL NOT BE CONSTRUCTED WITHIN 5m OF A PILE FOR WHICH
EXCAVATION WORKS ARE IN PROGRESS OR FOR WHICH THE CONCRETE HAS BEEN
CAST FOR LESS THAN 24 HOURS.
6. ALL STRUCTURAL CONCRETE IS TO BE GRADE 45D/20 (CHARACTERISTIC STRENGTH
AT 28 DAYS TO BE 45MPa; SLUMP 175mm + 25mm) COMPLYING WITH CS1:2010.
PFA CONTENT TO BE 35% BY MASS OF THE CEMENTITIOUS CONTENT OF THE
CONCRETE.
7. COVER TO OUTERMOST STEEL BARS SHALL BE 75mm.
8. UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED, THE LAP LENGTH OF REINFORCEMENT SHALL NOT
BE LESS THAN 50D (WHERE D IS THE DIAMETER OF REINFORCEMENT). LAP FOR
MAIN REINFORCEMENT SHALL BE STAGGERED AS FAR AS POSSIBLE.
9. RADUIS AND BENDS IN REINFORCEMENT TO BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CODE
OF PRACTICE FOR STRUCTURAL USE OF CONCRETE 2013 AND BS8666: 2005.

ROCK MATERIAL SHOULD HAVE A TOTAL CORE RECOVERY OF MORE THAN 85%
AND MINIMUM UNIAXIAL COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF ROCK MATERIAL (UCS) NOT
LESS THAN 25 MPa (EQUIVALENT POINT LOAD INDEX STRENGTH PLI 50 NOT LESS
THAN 1 MPa).
13. PRIOR TO THE COMMENCEMENT OF BORED PILE WORK, PREDRILL HOLE SHALL BE
CARRIED OUT AT EACH BORED PILE LOCATION. THE PREDRILLING SHOULD BE
SUNK TO AT LEAST 5m BELOW THE ROCKHEAD OF THE SPECIFIED GRADE, OR
DESIGN ROCK SOCKET LENGTH, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
METHOD STATEMENT FOR BASE BELLOUT OF BORED PILE
1. BELLOUT IS FORMED BY USING AN EXPANDABLE DRILL BIT MOUNTED ONTO A
REVERSE CIRCULATION DRILL RIG AND THE USE OF EXPANDABLE DRILL BIT IS
ADVISABLE.
2. THE SIZE OF THE BELLOUT TOOLS SHALL BE CHECKED AND CALIBRATED ON
GROUND INITIALLY BY MEASURING THE VERTICAL DISPLACEMENT AGAINST THE
DIAMETER OF BELLOUT FORMED.
3. FOR EACH BELLOUT FORMED, THE SIZE OF BELLOUT WOULD BE CONFIRMED BY
MEASURING THE VERTICAL DISPLACEMENT OF DRILL STRING ATTACHED TO THE
