2. Surgical Resident Seminars and Case Conference: 2–hour session; 2-3 times a year. Review residents’ slides and moderate discussion of basic physiology or molecular biology as well as clinical case presentation: Stomach, breast, molecular oncology and colon. Time: 4–5 hours/year

3. Advanced Anatomy (Cadaver Labs) for Surgical Residents (2010 – present)

Prepared course syllabus and exams for several of the procedures. The components of the curriculum: Simulate OR experience with the use of lightly embalmed cadavers and surgical instruments but without the stress of OR/patient costs. Provide opportunity for the residents to practice surgical procedures or techniques under close guidance. Time: 2-hour sessions, 5–6 times a year

4. Orientation of New Interns to General Surgery (June 2012 & 2013)

Prepare lectures, demonstrate techniques and provide opportunity for the residents to learn basic surgical skills, such as central line placement, chest tube placement, airway management, suture material, suturing, and knot tying. Time: 4-hours session, 2-4 sessions each year, 8–16 hours/year

5. ABSITE Individual Mentoring (July 2009 – 2016)

We meet weekly to biweekly to DISCUSS and REVIEW surgical topics or systems to improve the residents’ fund of knowledge. I also advise and mentor the female residents on work-life balance. Time: 40 hours/year

6. Medical Student Skill Labs (July 2014 – July 2015)

Design and develop techniques to teach medical students basic surgical skills, such as suturing and knot tying, chest tube placement, and laparoscopic fundamentals. Time: 2-hour session; 3 times per rotation. 6 rotations/year

7. Mentor 3rd year medical students during surgery rotation (Jan 2008 – 2013)

Advise and prepare 3rd year medical students for their surgical rotation in presentation skills, problem solving, and practice for oral exams. Time: 1-hour sessions/week; 7-8 week each rotation, 2-3 groups/year. 22 hours/year
