Dear Friends,

Goodwin Community Health’s Fiscal Year 2013 Report shares our success in leading change and broadening access of local health care. We are especially proud to be achieving these results during an era of health reform and social and economic uncertainty.

Over the past year, we’ve engaged in pilot programs including evidenced based interventions that will improve the health of the communities we serve and control the growth of health care expenditures. We made strong in-roads providing a medical home for patients with chronic disease who were frequently visiting emergency rooms because they didn’t have a primary care provider. We introduced innovative substance misuse screening programs into primary care, and expanded access to primary care services that are affordable to all people in our communities.

In the year ahead we will proudly partner with Tufts University’s Dental program and will begin providing clinical rotations for dental students beginning this summer. We will also continue to address our key priority of helping our community navigate changes to health insurance coverage as a result of the Affordable Care Act. These are uncertain times in health care that bring both opportunities and challenges to staff and patients alike. We see opportunity for a healthier Strafford County with less health disparities as more people gain Medicaid or private health insurance through the Federal Health Insurance Exchange.

Looking ahead to 2014, we will continue our work to refine the Goodwin experience so every patient and visitor may positively experience the values we embrace, the services we provide and better health. We are ready for what lies ahead. With your help, and the generous support of our community, we will do more for the people who need us.
