Concept Northern support individuals with additional support needs through bespoke training and assistive technology solutions.

We’re committed to helping young people with dyslexia find new employment opportunities. That’s why we developed our #WorkReady learning route which combines our award with specialist employability training.

Our SQA Customised Award is made up of seven comprehensive units covering key software and business skills. Working with carefully chosen assistive technology packages, learners are shown how to improve reading, writing, time management and communication skills. This means learners:

• Establish core skills• Develop dyslexia coping strategies• Gain a recognised qualification• Gain confidence in their abilities

Learning materials are available to study online, 24/7, on our secure learning portal and full support is available from our specialist trainers. We also offer face to face learning at our on-site training suite to help guide students through the courses.

Make the first step

1. #WORKREADY ROUTE (AGE 16 - 24)

Develop core skills and utilise assistive technology to support your first step on the job ladder. Study our SCQF Level 5 Award and enhance job prospects through employment and Modern Apprenticeship opportunities. Gain greater know-how and more confidence by combining training with real life experiences.

ELIGIBILITY

This route is suitable for those who meet the following criteria:

• Age 16 – 24

• Dyslexic

KEY FEATURES

Up to 200 hours of online and face-to-face training

Resources designed for dyslexic learners

Activity-based learning

Worth 20 SQA credit points

HOW IT WORKS

Benefiting from our unique learning program, candidates are shown the advantages of using assistive technology in common workplace activities. Learners are introduced to employability resources which have been developed to make applying for jobs a successful and rewarding experience. On completion, learners could be matched with a suitable Modern Apprenticeship placement, full time employment or move on to further education.

How to use the features and tools available in Sonocent Audio Notetaker to make common business scenarios more manageable such as meetings and presentations.

04 Improve MS Office Skills and Accessibility

An introduction to using Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint and key Windows accessibility features.

05 Improve Time Management with Assistive Technology

Covering time management techniques to help learners achieve business goals while integrating assistive technology into daily routines.

06 Better Business Reading and Writing with Assistive Technology

Covering reading and writing techniques to help learners digest information, and communicate better with colleagues and customers.

07 Communicate Effectively with Assistive Technology

Covering presentation and communication techniques to help learners express themselves appropriately in interviews and meetings.

08 Developing Skills for Employment

Helping learners develop core skills and build a comprehensive CV.

Up to 120 hours of online and face-to-face training

Personalised trainer support

Worth 14 SQA credit points

HOW IT WORKS

Candidates are guided through the award, learning how to use assistive technology to improve office and self-management tasks.

Our online learning resources are hosted on our industry standard learning management system (LMS) which also tracks progress and user milestones.

Units combine traditional textbook-style learning with video demonstrations and advanced interactive modules.

Help with writing

Texthelp Read&Write helps with reading, improves writing and develops study skills.

Based around an easy-to-use toolbar, the software contains a comprehensive selection of features designed to make literacy tasks, studying, and research easier.

It is an invaluable application for individuals with dyslexia, and can help with tasks as diverse as correcting spelling mistakes to collecting information for a report.

HOW IT WORKS

Our SCQF Level 5 award teaches learners how to use all of Texthelp Read&Write’s features to help in their performance of workplace tasks. Emphasis is placed on using the software to improve literacy potential for business, focusing on topics such as writing reports, conveying information accurately, and reading capably.

Help taking notes

Sonocent Audio Notetaker helps with taking notes, editing, and organising information.

It’s an all-in-one solution to capturing audio, enhancing it, and organising it. This helps ensure users get the most from recordings of meetings, seminars, presentations and dictation. Sonocent Audio Notetaker displays audio visually which makes editing intuitive. Text notes, references and images can also be added to extend a recording’s functionality.

HOW IT WORKS

Our SCQF Level 5 award shows learners how to use the software’s key tools in common workplace scenarios such as note-taking, meetings, and presentations. Learners are guided through the program’s essential features and are invited to think how they can use the software in their own daily routines. This means that learners are better prepared to organise their work and recall information.

Help to organise

MatchWare MindView helps to brainstorm ideas, plan tasks, and manage projects.

The software gives users the power to create detailed mind maps and diagrams, which can be used with new tasks, organise existing ones, and simplify project management.

Featuring extensive Microsoft Office integration and powerful collaboration options, MindView enables users to plan and produce better projects and reports from start to finish.

HOW IT WORKS

Our SCQF Level 5 award introduces the learner to MindView’s extensive feature set and selection of tools. Learners are shown how to use their skills for time management and project planning.

This means that learners have the skills to successfully manage their workload in a busy office environment.

Help with productivity

Microsoft Office includes the world’s most commonly used productivity software.

Incorporating Outlook (E-mail), Word (Word Processor), Excel (Spreadsheet) and PowerPoint (Presentations), Office enables users to stay connected, plan their work day, design professional documents and analyse data.

Featuring a common interface and a familiar user experience, this software is an integral part of the contemporary workplace.

HOW IT WORKS

Our SCQF Level 5 award introduces the learner to Office’s core applications. Learners are shown how to perform basic workplace-based tasks using the software in order to improve their overall workplace confidence and competence. These skills are especially important in creating and editing documents, whether they be written reports, financial accounts or presentation slides.

KEY FEATURES Communicate and manage time with Outlook Create, edit and share written documents with Word Manipulate and display data with Excel Enhance workplace presentations with PowerPoint Become proficient in this popular office software suite

SDS Individual Learning Account (ILA)

This provides £200 towards the cost of training to improve personal and business skills.

Successful applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

• Resident in Scotland and over 16 years old• Not in secondary, higher or further education• Do not already have a degree or equivalent• Do not earn more than £22,000 per year• Not already receiving funding through the Employability Fund• Not in the Modern Apprenticeship scheme

AVAILABLE FUNDING STREAMS

Concept Northern’s #WorkReady Employability route is fully funded by Skills Development Scotland (SDS). Skills Development Scotland is the national skills body supporting the people and businesses of Scotland to develop and apply their skills. Other funding sources may be available depending on the circumstances of the individual.
