Introduction An earthquake is
the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth’s crusts that creates seismic waves. The seismicity or seismic activity of an area refers to the frequency, type and size of earthquakes experienced over a period of time.
1. Where the crust is being pulled apart, normal faulting occurs, in which the overlying (hanging-wall) block moves down with respect to the lower (foot wall) block.2. Where the crust is being compressed, reverse faulting occurs, in which the hanging-wall block moves up and over the footwall block – reverse slip on a gently inclined plane is referred to as thrust faulting.3. Crustal blocks may also move sideways past each other, usually along nearly-vertical faults. This ‘strike-slip’ movement is described as sinistral when the far side moves to the left, and dextral, when the far side moves to the right.4. An oblique slip involves various combinations of these basic movements, as in the 1855 Wairarapa Fault rupture, which included both reverse and dextral movement.
Types
What have to do before a earthquake?
1. You willput a meeting
point
2. You will determine the safest points
3. You will have a first aid
What have to do during a earthquake?
1. You going to keep calm
2. If you are indoors you going to put in fetal position
10. July 8, 1730: A magnitude 8.7 in Valparaiso, Chile, killing at least 3,000 people.
09. November 1, 1755: A 8.7 magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Lisbon.
08. February 27, 2010: A magnitude 8.8 earthquake off the coast of Chile,
07. January 31, 1906: A magnitude 8.8 earthquake off the coast of Ecuador and Colombia generated a tsunami

05. January 26, 1700: A magnitude 9.0 earthquake shakes northern California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia and villages damage resulting tsunami in Japan.
04. August 13, 1868: A magnitude 9.0 earthquake in Arica, Peru (now Chile) generated catastrophic tsunami
03. December 26, 2004: An earthquake measuring 9.1 on the Indonesian island of Sumatra triggered a tsunami
