CONCEPT AND DESCRIPTION

The environment is the surrounding in which a person, animal, or plant lives and operates. It contains air, soil and water all together as the main components.

Qatar is a peninsula surrounded by water from three sides. So, the relation-ship between water and land is a parallel relationship. The ocean holds 97% of the total water on the planet. Sea and ocean is where our ancestors started life in, the natural resources were very few and they depended on pearl diving, fishing and trading the most and as significant reasons for living in the pre-natural-gas era in Qatar. until Petrol was found in the 1930’s, which created a shift in the economy of the country. Hence, since a long time ago ocean and land is comple-menting each other.

The wzar is the fabric men used to wear when going fishing. It has always been a significant index to fishing in Qatar and the Gulf region. I was inspired by it when I designed the logo.

The pattern of the Wzar is basically made of contrasting strokes of lines weaved together to create an intertwined pattern. Semantically, This pattern can represent the collaboration of the fishing crew.

Men used to go in big groups of people, each with an assigned task that has to be done through the cruise. They all worked together to make their way back to their homes successfully.

In my logo design, I was inspired by the Wzar pattern as a way to present Qatar and its relationship with the ocean, also to preserve the heritage of the region.

Other inspirations were some of the fishing gear such as Ghitra, net, Qurqoor and ropes. Ghitra is men’s’ headwear. It can be found in two designs, either plain white color or weaved lines patterns. The net and the ropes are international fishing equipments, which links Qatar to the world. The net is also weaved lines formulating the fishing net, while, ropes are what link things together. Qurqoor is a clip cage on the form of a half oval. It is made of flexible metal and it has two openings, a wide one and a narrow one, once a fish gets in from the wide open-ing through the narrow opening, it gets trapped and it cant go back out. Each inspiration has its own system of working but at the end they all propose two main things, which are: linking and collabora-tion.
