In 1898, in a cramped artisan’s workshop, a visionary young designer named Ebenezer Gomme began creating exquisite handcrafted furniture. His grandson, Donald, continued the family tradition and in 1953 he renamed E. Gomme Ltd, G Plan, to refl ect the changing times. From these new beginnings came a design legacy that would span generations and create some of the most enduring, iconic furniture of the20th century.

G Plan pieces such as the ‘world’s most comfortable chair’ redefi ned homes in the 60’s and 70s, and made elegant statements in the 80s and 90s. In fact, throughout the decades G Plan has stood fi rmly at the forefront of style.

Times have undoubtedly changed since 1898, but the reasons for investing in a G Plan original haven’t. Our continued commitment to design excellence means we’re still creating outstanding style-setting pieces that will grace any home.

It should come as no surprise that a new G Plan purchased today could well turn out to be the design classic of tomorrow. But then, as any collector will tell you, G Plan has always been a smart purchase, not just a stylish one.

Responsibly sourced woodWe use up to 70 pieces of timber for each sofa and ensure hardwood is used on all load-bearing areas for maximum durability. Our wood is responsibly sourced and all wood detailing is available in teak, cherry, ash or mahogany.

Mixing & matching stylesClassic elegance always works, so you can safely match timeless items with more contemporary pieces. Old mirrors can look stunning in minimal settings. Sleek glassware gives a modern twist to more traditional spaces. Just keep things simple.

Bold & beautiful colours If you want to make a statement, decorating with bright colours could be the answer. Hot pinks, bitter chocolates and burnt oranges work well with dark furniture. But if this seems too bold, why not introduce splashes of colour in the form of a bright throw or scatter cushions.

Creating the illusion of spaceLight colours always open up a room. Cleverly placed mirrors reflect lots of sunlight and appear to make walls recede into the distance. Vertical stripes also draw the eye upwards and away from walls. Beware horizontals as they do the opposite.

Sofa buying guideRoom sizeWe recommend that you measure your room before buying a sofa, as you won’t want it to overpower your existing furniture. It’s also a good idea to measure doorways, hallways and any obstacles, such as staircases, to make sure the sofa will fit. Your local G Plan stockist will provide advice and assistance in gaining access to your home.

Existing decorIf you would like your sofa to tie in with an existing look, please bear colour and style in mind. Every single G Plan sofa is made to order, which means you can select one that integrates wonderfully with your home and personality.

LifestyleDo you have children and pets? Will your sofa be in a main room or a secondary room? Think how you will use your furniture and seek professional advice from your stockist.

SupportIf you’re looking for head and neck support, we suggest a high backed model. Many of our models have a built in lumbar and headroll for added comfort.

• Plump up cushions frequently to stop creasing and flattening. Turn reversible cushions regularly to enhance their appearance and comfort.

• Where possible, reposition upholstery in your room for more equal seat usage.

• Lightly vacuum fabric-covered upholstery once a week to prevent dust from building up. Accumulated dirt will dull colours and speed up wear.

• Dust leather furniture with a soft brush weekly and wipe with a damp cloth. Do not use polishes, detergents, solvents, white spirit or stain removers

as they may damage the leather. Clean quarterly with a lukewarm, mild solution of a pure soaping agent. It’s important not to over wet the leather. Failure to carry out simple cleaning on a regular basis can reduce the life of your leather upholstery.

• Do not leave newspapers on your sofa or chairs as the ink can stain.

• Avoid sitting on upholstery with heavy soiled or non-colourfast clothing.

• Direct sunlight can cause fading, so protect furniture by drawing curtains and blinds whenever possible.

• To prevent wear, avoid sitting on the arms of chairs. We know children love jumping on sofas but they can damage the cushion covers and seat.

• Care should be taken with sharp edged toys, buckles and jewellery. Trim off loose threads with sharp scissors as pulling them could leave a hole.

• Recliner mechanisms should be operated with care and children should refrain from playing on them.

• Keep furniture away from direct heat or air conditioning as this can cause joints to dry out and crack.

• Keep pets off furniture to avoid scratches or marks.

• In the event of accidents or severe soiling, please contact your stockist or seek professional advice.

Scatter cushions• Scatter cushions are available in any fabric as an

optional extra

• All scatter cushions are available in 2 sizes. Classic unpiped are 42cm x 42cm (16.5” x 16.5”) or classic piped which are approx 47cm x 47cm (18.5” x 18.5”) when filled. All are duck feather filled in 100% cotton feather proof cases

Wood• It is our policy to purchase timber from responsible

sources, where reforestation is assured

• Wood graining and shades may vary from piece to piece, which is all part of its unique charm

Springs• We use quality serpentine springs for long term durability

• All springs are expertly spaced for maximum comfort and support

• Our springs are housed in special lined brackets, ensuring they don’t squeak when you sit down

Seat cushions• All seat cushion interiors, with the exception of Boston

and Yale, use premium quality foams while back cushions use high quality fibre for lasting comfort and quality

• Boston and Yale feature high quality fibre in seat cushions

• Malvern & Chloe have ‘Cold Cure’ cushions which are individually formed in their own mould to ensure a standard shape and density. This guarantees maximum comfort, support and longevity

Back cushions• Du Pont’s Quallofil Extra Life fibre helps cushions recover

their shape after use. It also maximises the durability of the furniture

• Fibre is held in compartments separated by baffles to prevent thinning of heavily used areas

Recliner mechanisms• All power action recliners are operated with a toggle

switch at the side of the chair or sofa

• Our market-leading power actions support you in a variety of comfortable positions

• All electric motors and rechargeable power packs come with a 2 year warranty
