Q5) How did you attract/address your audience?

Firstly we've tried to target/attract the 'twilight' fan base, this is because our film is based on a vampire and his relationships and the killings of young girls. We attracted the audience by using some of the themes that are included in twilight such as the whole sense of ever-present danger and romance. The twilight fan base mostly consists of teenage girls who are typically seduced/attracted by the 'handsome' male actor, therefore they're more likely to come see the film as the more 'handsome' a star, the more likely is the female audience enticed.

Also the existence of vampire/werewolf aspect of the saga has led to splitting the existing 'twilight fandom' into two polarising 'fandoms', which has effectively created hostility and tension between the 'fandoms'. This, of course, is one of the reasons for Twilight's great success. There is a constant fight between the fandoms, which is key to gaining more publicity and attracting potential audience members. As in our film, we hoped create a similar splitting of fandoms, as it were, through having a 'hero' (best friend) and an 'anti-hero' (the vampire).

Fan base

Music

Furthermore we attempted to attract other fans to watch our film- we did this by using a soundtrack featuring Beyonce. This would hopefully, attract more audience members as often, fans of a particular artist would go and see something if their artist's featured.

Editing

Continuity- during the editing the shots were placed in a logical order so that there would be a seamless flow of events/ actions, this was done in order to make sure the sequence is running smoothly and that the audience can barely see any editing being done. Hopefully alongside the soundtrack the sequence run smoothly and allowed the audience to follow the story/storyline- if the continuity editing wasn't visible or was inadequately performed, the audience would've lost focus of the plot and the story and would've focused on the rough editing instead.

Camera work, movement, angle and movement

The 180 degree rule was used in order to keep the audience engaged and make them aware of what is going on exactly- using the 180 degree rule correctly not to confuse the audience - so that the focus isn’t lost- allows audience to track the action/ conversation between the characters- draws the audience to where they're supposed to looking- we've manipulated the audience and forced them to follow the characters by the 180 degree rule as we're constantly switching between the characters- focusing specifically on them.

We have used some close ups however the most significant one is the close up of the vampire biting into the girls neck- this shot is specifically important as it's the first time the audience discover the main character is a vampire- this way the audience are put at an advantage as they're first to become aware of the natural nature of the vampire (dramatic irony is used- the idea of the audience knowing something the characters aren't aware off) therefore this hopefully makes them feel more engaged in the movie and persuades them to carry on watching it as they're given more knowledge allowing them to feel more important- giving them a bit more power in a sense.

We have also included a point of view shot (POV) which we used in order for the audience to emphasise and engage with the character- the teenage girl- As the girl turns around to see if there’s anyone behind her (a long shot) there's a POV shot used to show the girls perspective- putting the audience in her shoes- POV looking down an empty corridor- back to a long shot of the girl. This positions the audience on the girls side and can imagine what she's feeling by seen the corridor through her perspective.

Mise en scene:

Location- for our opening sequence we've the school as our main location. In this sense I hope we engaged the audience more as we placed them in a location they're most familiar to and can relate to- allows them to examine the interpretation of the location, by the director. Similarly by choosing 'high school' uniforms- white shirts, black neat trousers- we tried to engage the audience by making them have a lot to relate to- standard high school uniform in most school in the UK, consists of a plain white shirt and black trousers- hopefully this made them feel equal to the characters instead of feeling different to them- where the audience and the audience are at the same level.
