The longer you kneel on a hard surface or stoop in an awkward position, the more at-risk you put yourself & higher probability of having a knee injury
Stand up slowly• Hold on to the shelf or other stable object as you stand up from a kneeling or
stooping position
If there is nothing to hold onto, simply place your hands on one knee & push yourself up slowly

TIP & BEST PRACTICE
The only way to get to the lower shelves is by kneeling OR stooping
Make sure to change positions frequently
Consider stocking the lower shelf with one product, then switching to a higher shelf to reduce the time spent in an awkward position (alternating product & position)
Can you find what is correct with the SRs body position in the above picture?
What is wrong with how the SR is kneeling in the above picture?

• Consult with store management to get Mondelēz product lowered to a level where a ladder is not needed– Many reps & managers have been very successful at getting the product lowered– This will reduce the dangers that exist when using a ladder– Reducing the amount of back stock at the store will also help lower the risk
• When at all possible, have the store pull the pallet into a more workable area– The best working position is to have the pallet accessible from the front & back to avoid reaching across the pallet to pull product to you – Reaching to pull product can put an excessive amount of force on your back & shoulders
• Avoid stepping on pallets if at all possible – Walk around to the other side of the pallet to pick product – If you must get on a pallet to get product, use one foot to place on the pallet & one foot off the pallet– Place your foot on the slat directly over the bottom wood– The slats on the pallet could be old & brittle
Tips for Reducing Backroom Incidents
![Page 31: Q2 2014 ssr meeting team 153](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062313/559093841a28abc7538b46a3/html5/thumbnails/31.jpg)
• When you first enter into the back room, stop & take a look around to
see what potential hazards you may encounter
– Things change quickly, so be aware of your surroundings, including pallets on the
floor, holes in the floor, protrusions from the rack, etc…
– Never read any material or look at the laptop while walking
• Avoid carrying product down a ladder
– Very serious injuries have occurred from missing the bottom rungs & falling &
bumping the head or knee
– If you must pick product off of higher shelves on a ladder, try to find a way to lower
the product (into a shopping cart or hand off to someone) so you can use the 3 points
of contact while descending the ladder
• Make sure to follow proper procedure when folding carts
– Leave one side out & locked & rest the other carts inside the
first cart using the same procedure
– Never fold up both ends of the cart as the potential for injury
increases dramatically

• Keep hands inside the cart rail when pushing the cart through doorways
– Hands & fingers can get crushed against the wall or door frames if they are on the outside of the cart
• Wear slip resistant shoes when working, especially on wet OR snowy days
– Wipe off your shoes before entering the store– Look for wet spots on the floor in the back rooms– If you notice a wet spot, notify a store employee
or wipe up the wet area yourself

Shoulder Stretch- June WHY: To avoid cumulative trauma disorders as well as to keep your body limber and in good physical condition. Flexibility in the upper back, shoulder, and scapular area is important for maintaining erect posture. How: This stretch is done with your fingers interlaced behind your back. Slowly move your arms away from your back until you feel a stretch in your shoulders and chest. Time / Rate: Arms behind Stretches should be held for 5 seconds and done 3 times. WHEN: As a daily stretching program and when you have shoulder, upper back, neck or elbow tension, tightness or discomfort. This is used to improve posture. REMEMBER: Do all exercises slowly and to your full capacity. Stretching should be felt in the shoulders and chest. Respect pain, numbness and tingling symptoms. Stop if it hurts! Stretching should never hurt. Only go to the point where the stretch feels comfortable, not painful.

CPISH1. Check the invoice to verify the correct count for how many cases were received on the delivery.
2. Work the delivery and count how many cases did not get worked.
3. Count how many full cases you worked from back stock.
NOTE: Moving product to change a display or working partial cases/repacks from back stock does NOT count as cases worked: Each case that is shipped to the store can only be counted one time - when it is initially opened and put on the sales floor.

delivery time.
• Reduce wait time for late trucks• Help manage budget issues
• If an SR gives you delivery times, but does not give a start time, make the judgment call
and start 1 hour after the delivery time (if delivered after 6 am).
