Q1/Q2 2016 ❖ CAMP SYSTEMS INTERNATIONAL 3

CONTENTSWhere to begin? I’m thrilled to

be communicating with you via InSight. I have also had the

pleasure of connecting with customers at their home bases of operation and at a multitude of industry venues. Did you know that by the end of the year CAMP will have attended nearly eighty industry driven events? As it stands, we’re already half way through!

Did you also know that there’s lots of opportunity at these events for valuable face time with your Regional Field Service Representative (FSR)? It’s true! And, in addition to your FSR, you will often encounter one of our expert Analysts, a CAMP Product Manager and/or your Regional Sales Manager at a show – all of whom will gladly sit and chat with you.

In the coming weeks and months you can find CAMP attending M&O’s, conferences, conventions, and forums throughout the world. In June, CAMP representatives will be present at Honeywell Operator Conferences scheduled in Vany Nuys, CA; London, UK; Amsterdam, NL; Rome, IT; and Minneapolis, MN. We are also looking forward to the Pilatus POPA Convention in Quebec City, CA.

In July, you can catch up with us at CBAA in Calgary, CA and at a Honeywell conference in Belo Horizonte, BR.

August takes us to São Paulo, BR at the beginning of the month for another Honeywell conference; then to Kildeer, IL for the Chicago Area Business Association Golf Outing (CABAA); and back to Brazil for LABACE.

To find out where we’ll be next, check out the ‘Events’ tab on the website, www.campsystems.com. Or, to learn more about the aforementioned happenings, visit the respective organizations’ websites. It would be terrific to see you at one of these events.

I am also pleased to report that we are making headway in the AVTRAK and SkyBOOKS migrations. AVTRAK customers are steadily being upgraded to the new AVTRAK user interface, which offers users the best of both worlds. The highly intuitive interface preserves the AVTRAK product strengths that customers have come to rely on, while incorporating a modern look and feel and, most significantly, implementing the most secure web

technology available. Approximately 700 aircraft have migrated to the new user interface to date. The AVTRAK team plans to have all customers moved by late summer. If you have any questions or need assistance pertaining to the migration, please contact a team member at +1-303-745-5588 or [email protected].

The SkyBOOKS migration has just begun and is off to a solid start. Approximately 10% of SkyBOOKS aircraft have been transitioned to CAMP. The team expects to have all subscribers moved by late summer as well. We are pleased to welcome SkyBOOKS subscribers to CAMP and look forward to supporting you. If you have any questions or need assistance pertaining to the migration, please contact a team member at +1-631-588-3200 or [email protected]. You can also learn more at www.campsystems.com/bhsb.

Both AVTRAK and SkyBOOKS customers are invited to take advantage of our free webinar training sessions. Webinars provide a convenient, interactive learning experience that will help familiarize you with the interfaces. The training schedules can be found under the ‘Webinars’ tab on the website.

Finally, CAMP is pleased to announce the introduction of several new features designed specifically to provide helicopter operators with the industry’s first fully integrated helicopter maintenance tracking service. Features include automatic formula-based penalty and RIN calculations, enhanced flight log tracking and more. CAMP has added a dedicated team of helicopter analysts, field service personnel, and general operational staff to provide direct support to our helicopter operators. I invite you to turn to page 5 to become more acquainted with CAMP’s helicopter service.

Until next time folks,

MANAGING SYSTEM FLEETS: FLEET UPDATE TRANSACTIONSOf vital importance to any flight operation is the ability to quickly identify and review the details associated with historic task updates. While the “Recent MTX Sum-mary” on the aircraft home page presents a truncat-ed view of the same information, a more advanced view with filtering capabilities is immediately available using the “Fleet Update Transactions” feature.

Reviewing Processed Update Transactions

All customers with access to more than one aircraft have the ability to utilize the Fleet Update Transac-tions feature as presented within the left navigation panel. This feature provides a means by which to identify historic instances of task updates the details of which can then be opened for further analysis. This is very useful when there is a need to clearly review the data which drove an update that may be in question. Users may also leverage the logbook generation feature to create historic log entries available here as well.

Default View - When the screen is first enabled it opens displaying all fleet transactional informa-tion for a period looking back 30 days grouping all listed tasks by aircraft. The system typically pres-ents all “Applied” transactions when first opened unless the user is a designated “QC Reviewer” at which time the system defaults the task listing to those which are in the “Pending” state.

Transaction Search & Identification

When a specific instance of a task update is sought the filter mechanism located in the lower left corner of the screen may be used to query specific instanc-es of task updates as the default view will not always immediately present the targeted transaction.

Example: A technician is interested in identifying the last instance of the left outboard tire change on aircraft N1260D.

Update Transactions Filter – To query the system to present the correct transactional record the

user selects the serial number associated with the aircraft, inputs “32” in the item number field as this will limit the search results to only the landing gear tasks, chooses the “Items Applied” checkbox and selects “ATTAS6454” from the inserted by pull down knowing that it was this individual that processed the update.

Transaction Presentation

The above filter criteria produces a record set. Note that if the tire has been changed more than once so it is important for the user to identify the correct transactional instance of the update. Selecting the expansion icon (+) associated with the selected transaction presents the detailed results of the information used to drive that instance of the task update.

Example: The left outboard tire, task 324011, on aircraft N1260D was replaced on 24-FEB-10 at 134:40 A/C Hours and 130 Landings. The techni-cian and the inspector responsible for the work are identified along with the installed and re-moved tire part/serials.

CAMP WISDOM TO HELP YOU ALONG THE WAY

CAMP Releases New Features Tailored

to Your Helicopter

Q1/Q2 2016 ❖ CAMP SYSTEMS INTERNATIONAL 5

W e are pleased to announce the release of several new CAMP

features designed specifically to provide helicopter operators with

the first fully integrated helicopter maintenance tracking service.

CAMP helicopter operators can now accurately track and project all UOMs prescribed by chapter 4 for your aircraft model within CAMP. All UOM types for

a given model are automatically included where needed such as Last Actuals, Aircraft Status on the home page, projections and Due List filtering.

Fully integrated calculation of penal-ized hours, landings and RIN values of life limited parts is now a standard fea-ture of CAMP. CAMP will incorporate

OEM prescribed equations as part of updated tem-plates. Operators who track event driven life limits will see accurate Hours, landings or RIN remaining for each life limited part in their aircraft without the need for external calculations or spreadsheets.

Collect flight log data from multiple aircraft operators such as pilots and re-mote technicians and approve entries before they drive maintenance require-

ments. Operators of all aircraft types can choose the method they prefer for updating aircraft totals. The new Flight Log Edit screen provides a “simple” view for “non-approvers” to submit totals right away. Submitted or saved entries will appear in the new Flight Log History page in chronological order based on airframe hours for approval. Authorized personnel will select and approve entries to drive maintenance totals.

CHAPTER 4

CAMP has made a substantial investment in developing a prod-uct that ensures helicopter opera-tors experience the same high level of service, performance, and usability that thousands of fixed wing aircraft operators have been receiving over the past 50 years from CAMP, ” according to Vibby Gottemukkala, President of CAMP Systems. Gottemukkala continued, “The CAMP service includes full analyst support for all of our subscribers. We

have added a dedicated team of helicopter analysts, field service personnel, and general operation-al staff with significant helicopter expertise to support the needs of our helicopter operators.

Our commitment to service and the product has led to Bell Helicopter choosing CAMP as the sole recommended main-tenance tracking provider for all Bell helicopters.

Wall mentioned aircraft mechanics who kept them safely flying but were too infrequently recognized. In 1943, Brig. Gen. Lucas V. Beau proudly added his copper wing to the Famous Fliers’ Wall. Beau founded the warplane maintenance and repair base at San Bernardino, CA, which was later named Norton Air Force Base.

Among the Famous Fliers’ Wall honorees are numerous Generals, some of whom attended the US Military Academy at West Point, NY. Two early graduates of West Point who did not show immediate potential as military officers were Henry H. “Hap” Arnold and Hoyt S. Vandenberg.

General Hoyt S. Vandenberg (1899-1954)Famous Fliers’ Wall 1943

Born in Pennsylvania, Arnold’s family included many servicemen, but following high school he was destined to be a minister. Instead, fate intervened. Less by choice and more by chance, Arnold received a spot at West Point.

Before WWII, aviators who frequented California’s Flabob Airport or March Field often relaxed at the nearby Mission

Inn in Riverside. Built in stages between 1902 and 1931 as a hotel and restaurant, the Inn is an eclectic combination of multi-level architecture which includes a courtyard with a giant animated clock. A custom-carved chair made for President Taft is among the varied unexpected sights within the Inn’s grounds including a chapel, museum, art collection, and a tribute to the pioneers of aviation known as the Famous Fliers’ Wall.

The Famous Fliers’ Wall

The idea to honor aviators began with DeWitt and Allis Hutchings, who were related to the owner of the Inn. In 1934 they were inspired to create a section of wall near the Chapel where honorees nailed their signed, 10-inch copper wings to the edifice. The wing nailing ceremony ranged from a few attendees to a gala ball.

Author Walter Parks wrote “The Famous Fliers’ Wall of the Mission Inn” in 1986, and revised it in 2004. According to Parks, the only criteria the Hutchings held for the honor was

that a person made a considerable contribution to aviation or that the honoree had at one time visited the Inn. No other specific qualifications were set and all future managers of the Inn were left to choose who they favored, creating considerable diversity and occasional controversy.

Nearly 160 honorees nailed their copper wings to the Wall between 1932 and 2014, of which ninety-five percent had military service backgrounds. All aspects of aviation related careers are represented including pioneer aviators Matilde Moisant and B.D. Foulois; test pilot Charles Elwood “Chuck” Yeager; explorers Lincoln Ellsworth and Bernt Balchen; foreign visiting dignitaries Lady Grace Drummond Hay and Viscount Alexander of Tunis; astronaut John Glenn; flight instructor and actor Robert Cummings; aircraft designers and manufacturers Jack Northrup and Donald Douglas; and stunt pilot Paul Mantz. At his wing nailing ceremony in 1984, Brig. Gen. Yeager was asked what major factor he valued most in his aviation career. He did not hesitate to attribute his background in aircraft maintenance which gave him an added “edge” over other pilots who applied to fly the Bell X-1. Many pilots with copper wings on the

He was athletic and well liked but also high in deportment demerits and low in academic standing. After graduating in 1907, Arnold remained unenthusiastic about routine military service until the Signal Corps announced an aviation training program. DeWitt Milling and Arnold were the first military graduates of the Wright brothers’ flying school in Ohio in 1911. Arnold went on to be a Signal Corps flight instructor. Decades later Arnold promoted the separation of aviation from the Army, and is referred to as “the father of the US Air Force.”

Although born in Wisconsin, Vandenberg’s family moved to Lowell, Massachusetts in 1909. Described as an “intelligent, poised, athletic and unusually handsome teenager,” Vandenberg graduated from high school in 1917. He soon entered the West Point, which came under the supervision of Douglas MacArthur in 1919. Like Arnold ten years before him, Vandenberg was a poor academic and rebelled against campus rules. His score for conduct demerits was among the highest in his class, and his academic rank was among the lowest. Upon graduation Vandenberg elected to train as a pilot which apparently suited his temperament

and channeled his skills into a future model of exemplary military leadership.

For their military contributions during peace and war, Arnold and Vandenberg have had their names assigned to many important facilities in the US, including: Vandenberg Air Force Base in Lompoc, CA, (1958 to present) and Arnold Air Force Base in southeastern Tennessee which was decommissioned in 2009. On that base is the Arnold Engineering Development Center (1951). The Navy named their missile range instrumentation ship (T-AGM-10) the USNS General Hoyt S. Vandenberg (1964-1993). At the US Air Force Academy in Colorado, there is an Arnold Hall; and March Air Reserve Base includes the Hap Arnold Club. Arnold and Vandenberg each appeared on the cover of Time magazine during the 1940s and 1950s. A US postage stamp was issued for Arnold in 1988. Both Arnold and Vandenberg are buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. For further information about the Famous Fliers’ Wall contact Walter Parks at [email protected]. The US Air Force offers many detailed biographies of their most famous officers: www.af.mil/AboutUs/Biographies.aspx.

(NYSE: TXT) company, announces plans to showcase the versatile capabilities of the Bell 412EPI through a series of customer demon-stration flights in Asia Pacific.

Bell Helicopter last demonstrated the Bell 412’s capability in 2013 in the region and since then has attracted a number of customers including the Philippine Department of National Defense and the Government of Uttar Pradesh in India. There are currently more than 150 Bell 412 vari-ants operating throughout Asia Pacific across a range of mission segments including VIP, energy, and general utility – proving the operational ver-satility of the aircraft.

“Customers around the globe rely on the Bell 412 to consistently perform in the toughest of envi-ronments, but also provide smooth and efficient travel across the region,” said Sameer A. Rehman, Bell Helicopter’s managing director of Asia Pa-cific. “We are delighted to showcase the versatility of this aircraft to our Asia Pacific customers. The new Bell 412EPI offers more powerful engine per-formance with a state-of-the-art integrated glass avionics suite that improves situational awareness and reduces pilot workload. We are eager for our customers to experience the power of this aircraft first hand.”

Bell Helicopter pilots will embark on a five-month demonstrating tour traveling to a number of countries in Asia.

Fol-low Bell Helicopter on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, and depending on where you see the aircraft, track its adventure using #Bell412EPi #DemoTour and tag the location! According to the latest updates, the aircraft already left Singapore and is now headed to the first stop.

The Bell 412EPI improves the Bell 412 platform with the Bell BasiX Pro fully integrated glass flight deck, providing critical flight information at-a-glance for greater situational awareness and

safety. The Bell BasiX Pro system is specifically designed to meet the requirements of twin-engine helicopters and is optimized for IFR, Category A and JAR OPS3 compliant operations. The avionics suite also includes high resolution digi-tal maps, electronic charts and approach plates, ADS-B transponder and optional HTAWS and XM satellite links. The Bell 412EPI features the BLR Strake and FastFin system, which modifies the tailboom to optimize airflow and improve handling, safety and lift. The Bell 412EPI also in-corporates the power of Pratt & Whitney's PT6T-9 Twin Pac engines, providing 15 percent more horsepower than the standard Bell 412.

Lisa Atherton, Bell Helicopter’s executive vice president of Military Business Development, pre-sented the ceremonial check to retired Army Col. Stanford Oliver, Chairman of the Army Aviation Association of America’s scholarship fund com-mittee earlier today at the 2016 Army Aviation Association of America’s Mission Solutions Sum-mit at the Georgia World Congress Center.

“Bell Helicopter understands that a college educa-tion is incredibly important, though financially it can be challenging for many families in the mili-tary,” said Atherton. “We are proud to continue our support of the Army Aviation Association’s Scholarship Foundation, and it is our privilege to help the families of the men and women who have served in the U.S. Army achieve their educa-tional goals by contributing to this inspirational and important effort.”

The Army Aviation Association Scholarship Foundation was created in 1963 to recognize and provide scholarship grants to the children of its members and deceased members who sought college-entry financial aid.

“Bell Helicopter continues to be a wonderful supporter of the Scholarship Foundation and the men and women who serve our nation,” said Oli-ver. “These types of donations make it possible for us to continue our mission helping the children of those who served attend college and succeed.
