NARRATIVEUse, Develop or Challenge? How your media product does

that?Evidence

Challenges My film opening challenges the conventions as my film opening follows a linear narrative, whereas a mystery/thriller would follow a non-linear narrative as normally, it incorporates a flashback. I did not use a flashback in my film opening to do because I did not have access to two young children, if I did I would have incorporated a flashback in my film opening. However it could be seen as positive as it will not give the audience the obvious sense that something is not right.

TITLESUse, Develop or Challenge? How your media product does

that?Evidence

Use I used the titles font foreshadow and gives subtle hints that not something is awry, as the font is slightly jaggered. In addition to this, the colour of the icy blue titles; I chose the colour icy blue because I wanted to create an unwelcoming and chilling atmosphere, to convey to the audience that something bad may happen later. The use of title to convey an uneasy nature is a typical convention used in the mystery/thriller genre.

SETTING/LOCATIONUse, Develop or Challenge? How your media product does

that?Evidence

Use/Develop/Challenge My film opening is mostly set in broad daylight, which is an not a typical convention of a mystery/thriller. However, I developed this by having the character isolated and in open spaces, which creates the idea of the unknown, which mystery/thrillers tend to do. My decision to do this has allowed me to use develop and challenge the typical conventions of a mystery/thriller.

MUSICUse, Develop or Challenge? How your media product does

that?Evidence

Use/Challenge My media product uses the conventions of a mystery/thriller, as I have incorporated tension building music near the end of my film opening. I did not want to have anything too dramatic, as it is only the beginning but by adding a bit of tension near the end will leave the target audience gripped. However, the music in my film opening does challenge the conventions as the music for the majority of it is very energetic and upbeat, which does not really fit in to the conventions. The reason for the upbeat music is because I wanted to build up tension slowly, rather than all at once.

I can not put photographical evidence of the music but here is the link to my film opening so you can hear the music used in my film http://patriciawilliamsoni.blogspot.co.uk/2016/03/film-opening-completed.html and he is another link to my soundscape choices and the names of the songs http://patriciawilliamsoni.blogspot.co.uk/2016/03/soundscape.html

INTRODUCING ANTAGONIST Use, Develop or Challenge? How your media product does that? Evidence

Use I put subtle hints of who is going to be the antagonist by having the name of the character in the text message and the hand touching the character. However, when we actually see the antagonist after the film opening scenes end, he will end up being the typical people who seem normal but will start acting mysterious later on in the film.
