• Proposed changes to the 2018 edition of NFPA

101 and 99 will be voted on at the 2017 NFPA

Conference and technical meeting June 7, 2017

in Boston.

• We need your participation at the upcoming

meeting in order to win the health care issues

that come up on the floor.

• At the 2011 NFPA meeting votes were being

taken on whether or not health care should be

allowed to increase smoke compartment size to

40,000 square feet. We missed winning this vote

by just four votes.

• Remember to make sure that your NFPA

membership is renewed/active at before

December 2016.

• ad - creates 2 new types of space, “General Examination Room," and

"Special Examination Room”

– General Exam will require 4 ACH minimum

– Special Exam

• Use by patients with undiagnosed gastrointestinal symptoms,

undiagnosed respiratory symptoms, or undiagnosed skin symptoms

• will require 6 ACH minimum

• c – creates footnote to allow usage of ANSI/AIHA/ASSE Z9.5 Laboratory

Ventilation Standard to establish ACH for laboratory work areas

ASHRAE 170 Addendum to be Published

• f – Clarifies primary supply diffuser array in Operating Rooms

– Eliminates “Doughnut Hole” loop hole

– Clarifies that PSDA consists of an area encompassing 12” on each side

of the footprint of the surgical table

– Clarifies no more than 30% of this portion of the PSDA area can be

used for nondiffuser uses
