SEN: Referral Process
Step 1
• Teachers address the concerns inside the classroom by differentiating tasks and the environment to meet student needs.
• SEN department may be consulted for strategies but are not directly involved.
Step 2
• If concern remains the teacher completes the Student of Concern form which is directed to the SEN department.
• Teachers must inform parents of their concerns and the referral at this stage.
Step 3
• Within 1 week the SEN team meet with the homeroom teacher for a Student of Concern meeting. Evidence of the concerns is gathered, new strategies provided and next steps agreed on.
Step 4
• The strategies and interventions are started in class and must run for between 3-6 weeks before they are reviewed.
• SEN team begin gathering further data using internal assessments. Parent approval is only required when using standardized assessments such as the Woodcock Johnson IV.
Step 5
• A second Student of Concern meeting is held. All gathered data is shared and the interventions discussed.
• Next steps are decided. Within 1 week we meet with parents to share all information gathered and discuss next steps.
Step 6
• Support begins. Documentation is drafted and shared with all parties for feedback.
• The entire process can take up to 8 weeks though we aim to get it done within 4-5 weeks.

Extended LearningWith Extended Learning (EL) we’re excited to offer a wide range of students in our community with the opportunity to show just how far they can push their thinking, learning and creativity. The Extended Learning teacher works within the classroom and in small groups to provide extended access to different areas of the curriculum.
The aim of the EL program is to be quite fluid, allowing students to transition in and out throughout the year.
