Message froM PV ManagerHi, Everyone, It is almost time for everyone to be coming back to our beautiful community. I need to remind everyone there are a few things to remember about how we treat our homes and the community concerning our water and sewer pipes underground. We all must remember not to throw any Swiffer pads, diapers, wipes in the toilet. They stop our lift station pumps from running and they burn out. We have had to replace one pump this week at the RV lift station. We are also experiencing an increase in our water usage. Please check to ensure your faucets, and bathroom toilets are not leaking. Please replace the items that are leaking if they are. To keep cost down and ensure you will not have to pay for water, please check your home. We are working on getting the mail room completed. The construction company has not been able to spend full days here so we are a little behind schedule. Once they are finished with their work we will then be able to start the inside and hopefully it will go quickly. Our new Homes are in and the new owners will be very soon. From the start of 2014, Plantation Village Co-op decided to put new homes in the community we now have a total of 8. The newest one is at 8 Cherry. We will be putting additional homes in on the last 2 empty lots, so watch for these to be happening. Soon it will be the fall and it is almost time to see the snow birds return. We continue to improve the commu-nity and will be putting new front signs at the front gates. They will be updated to show off this great community. As always Plantation Village is unique, and it is because of its people. They are the best of this community and what makes us a premier community. All the good things can be accomplished together.

Thank you, Merry Sinacore

Message from Co-Op PresidentFrank Fields

All is well in the village. Residents are enjoying the new gazebo and the grills at the gaming area. The mail boxes have been moved so the office can be expanded. There was very little delivery interruption and thanks to all for being patient. Construction on the office has started and will be finished as soon as possible. We now have another activity here at PV, the PV yacht club. We will be operating remote control boats in the pond. Should bring out the kid in a lot of us. We plan on having races and trophies for the winners. Tom and Karen Harmon are in charge. Give them a call if you would like to be involved. This is such a great place to call home. As always look out for your neighbors.

MHOA President Terry Yorke

Hello, everyone! I think our hot and humid weather up here is getting close to what you are having down there. A big 100th birthday wish to Ruth Southworth on Coco-nut Street. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RUTH! The pictures of the park I have been receiving are great. The wonderful added artwork by Chris Bell highlights all the work that has been done since I left. The donations for the bazaar keep coming which will enable us to continue to make improvements to our park. Many thanks go out to our barbeque crew for their hard work. Make sure you come out to support this event and say hello and meet your neighbors, relax and enjoy. I hear regatta season at the pond is approaching so be-ware of upcoming roaring engines and speeding boats. I understand we have a number of new residents so please make them welcome to our park. If you are a new resident and you have any questions please visit the office in the park for information.

Message from the EditorKathy Holly

As we continue to improve and make our community a recognized name, the addition of the new and improved website, Facebook presence, and a resident-only Face-book page has brought us to where we are today! In cooperation with these improvements, the newsletter name has been updated to go with the flow - “PV News-letter” is simple, direct, and recognizes the use of PV in our advertising. I hope this season will bring more ad-ditions to the content of the newsletter. As always, you can submit articles and ads by email to: [email protected] or contacting Kathy Holly. The deadline is the 15th of the prior month for publication. Thank you!

New mailbox location: I recently went to retrieve my mail (which had been locat-ed behind the door inside) - once I read the boxes outside, I found my address listed on the front of the box. Be sure to check them out by address to find your new location!

MEET YOUR NEIGHBORSue tHureSSon

by Ted Ormiston Sue was born in Stoughton, Wisconsin but moved to Cartersville, Georgia when she was 17 and that is her home away from Plantation Village when she’s not here. Sue has five children, three daughters and two sons and they have blessed her with five grandchildren. Sue attended college taking courses in business manage-ment and began her working career with the United States Postal Service where she worked for 25 years.  While she was working for the USPS she began working for a chiro-practor as his assistant and, as if that wasn’t enough to keep her busy began taking children into her home as a foster parent, something she did for the next 32 years and for which she has many many rewarding memories.  Many of those foster-children still keep in touch with Sue, relating life’s experiences and asking for advice. Sue moved into Plantation Village in 2013 and says that most of her time here involves maintenance and upkeep on her unit on Quince.  She says that missing her grand-children is what keeps drawing her away from PV and back home to Georgia.  She enjoys making jewelry and actually wishes she could find the time to get more involved with some of the many activities available to the residents of PV.  She says that when she is back home in Cartersville she loves to spend time with her grandkids going to garage sales, even if they don’t buy anything, just spending time with them.  I’m glad to have met Sue and to have had the opportunity to spend some time with her and to get to know her a little.  I hope she gets the opportunity to meet more of our residents and to become involved in some of the PV activities.

THANK YOU! When you go to the pool you will see new noodles or floaties. These were donated to PV by Sue Thuresson of 7 Quince. I would personally like to thank her for the new equipment. This is what makes PV a great community.

Shinglesby Ted Ormiston

Recently I discovered just how un-educated I was con-cerning the disease of shingles. My wife Vickey’s health just seemed to slowly deteriorate and on July 12th I took her to the doctor who proclaimed she had shingles. I had always thought this was just a nasty disorder that was mainly just an irritating nuisance. I quickly and almost tragically learned how wrong I was! Our doctor ordered a prescription for Vickey and we returned home. On Friday the 13th she seemed so much better that I believed she was over the hump. The prescription called for Vickey to take one pill every eight hours and on Saturday night at 11:00 our daughter woke Vickey up to take her pill. My daughter rushed out to find me in the living room and had me go to Vickey’s bedside. Vickey was staring off into space like she had no idea where she was and we quickly called an ambulance. By the time we reached the hospital the clock had rolled over and it was Sunday morning. All day Sunday Vickey laid in bed unmoving and unresponsive as I sat by her bedside talking to her. Her eyes never opened and I feared that I was losing her. I have no doubt now that had we not gotten her to the hospital when we did she would have at least had drastic results and at the worst I would not want to think about. Her daily improvement from then on was almost unparalleled according to almost every doctor that saw her. When the current adults of my generation were children almost all of us were infected with chicken pox. The virus from chicken pox lurks in your body waiting to pounce on you as you age. It can then re-emerge as shingles aka herpes zoster. Adults over the age of 50 should be immu-nized for shingles as 20% of all adults who were infected with chicken pox as children will contact shingles. Even if you were previously vaccinated with zostavax for shingles a new vaccine called Shingrix is about 40% more effective to prevent shingles. In the past I have submitted several newsy articles for the Voice that were “down-home comfortable”. This article IS NOT meant to be comfortable. I came so close to losing my wife partly due to my ignorance that if I can pass on some knowledge of how serious shingles can be that will help even one person then I will consider it worthy of the little bit of time I invested. Please get vaccinated for shingles and strongly consider getting the current best vaccine on the market.
