Put Your Best Foot Forward ! Mentoring students in a busy practice can
be stressful. Setting expectations up front
and following the suggestions below may
help you ensure a successful rotation!
Before the student arrives:
1) Review the objectives and evaluation
forms for the rotation
2) Identify your own expectations of the
student
3) Recruit staff to help orient the student
4) Block time in your schedule to meet
with the student
During the rotation:
1) Orient the student to your practice/clinic
2) Agree on 5-7 rotation goals and share with staff
3) Keep goals in mind when discussing cases or giving feedback
End of rotation:
1) Refer back to goals/expectations of rotation
2) Complete evaluation of student and share any recommendations for
future rotations.

Hello!
My name is Amanda Johnson and I've recently joined the faculty at the UW-Madison PA program. I graduated from Western Michi-gan University with my Masters in Science in Medicine from their PA program in 2005. I worked in pri-mary care, both FM and IM and rural, for about 8.5 years until switching to Hematology/Oncology in 2013. I've enjoyed mentoring PA students, medical students and residents during my career and look forward to work-ing very closely with UW-Madison PA students and precep-tors!
Outside of work, I am a busy mom of 2 children who keep me running to hockey, swim, softball and baseball.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or con-cerns! I look forward to working with everyone.
