Introduction

The word ‘Purusha’ means God Almighty. This Suktam is in praise of the glory of God. It

is chanted in houses, places of worship during rituals and ceremonies. Reciting this confers

blessings on one’s life. This mantra is chanted by Rishis before performing Yagna so that

there are no obstacles or intermissions during the Yagna.

Introducción: La palabra “Purusha” significa Dios Todopoderoso. Este Suktam es en alabanzade la gloria de Dios. Es cantado en los hogares, en los lugares de adoracióndurante rituales y ceremonias. Recitarlo confiere bendiciones a nuestra vida. Estemantra es cantado por los Sabios (Rishis) antes de realizar un Yajña (sacrificio), para que no haya obstáculos o intromisiones durante el Yajña.

Todo lo pasado, presente y futuro es Su manifestación.

uÞtämåtaÞtvasyeçä×naù | yadanne×nätiÞroha×ti ||He is the Emperor of the immortal state because He is beyond the material world

Él es el Emperador del estado inmortal porque está más allá del mundo material.

eÞtävä×nasya mahiÞmä |The entire Universe is a manifestation of His splendor

El Universo entero es una manifestación de Su esplendor.

atoÞ jyäyägà×çcaÞ püru×ñaù |

But His glory is more effulgent than all thisSin embargo, Su gloria es más refulgente que todo esto.

pädo÷’syaÞ viçvä× bhüÞtäni× | |One fourth of His entire being is this manifest Universe.

Una cuarta parte de Su ser es este Universo manifestado.



triÞpäda×syäÞmåtaà× diÞvi ||Three fourths of His splendor is in the realms of immortality

Tres cuartas partes de Su esplendor están en los reinos de la inmortalidad.

triÞpädüÞrdhva udaiÞtpuru×ñaù |Three fourths of the Purusha is beyond comprehension

Tres cuartas partes del Purusha están más allá de nuestra comprensión.

The material world is only a fractional part of His gloryEl mundo material es apenas una fracción de Su gloria.

tatoÞ viñvaÞìvya×krämat | säÞçaÞnäÞnaÞçaÞne aÞbhi ||He then entered deep into the world of the sentient (the life) and the insentient (the lifeless).

Entonces Él entró profundamente en el mundo de lo consciente y de lo inconsciente.

tasmä÷dviÞräò× jäyata |From Him (the Virat Purusha) emerged the Cosmos

De Él (el Virat Purusha) emergió el Cosmos.

viÞräjoÞ adhiÞ püru×ñaù |Then came Brahman from the Virat Purusha

Entonces vino Brahman del Viraj Purusha (Persona Cósmica).

sa jäÞto atya×ricyata |Having emerged, thus He pervaded the entire Universe.

Habiendo emergido, Él saturó al Universo entero.



paÞçcädbhümiÞmatho× puÞraù ||Then He created this Earth and then created bodies for all beings.

Entonces Él creó esta Tierra y creó los cuerpos de todos los seres.

yatpuru×ñeëa haÞviñä÷ | deÞvä yaÞ jïamata×nvata |With the Purusha as the offering, the Devas performed a Yagna

Con el Purusha como la ofrenda, los Devas realizaron un Yajña (un sacrificioritual).

vaÞsaÞnto a×syäséÞdäjyam÷ |Spring season was offered as ghee

La primavera fue ofrecida como ghi (manteca clarificada).

gréÞñma iÞdhmaççaÞraddhaÞviù ||Summer season was offered as firewood. Autumn season was offered as the holy food

(naivedyam)

El verano fue ofrecido como leña para el fuego. El otoño fue ofrecido como el

alimento sagrado (naivedyam).

saÞptäsyä×sanpariÞdhaya×ù |The five elements, day and night constituted the seven boundaries for the Yagna kunda

(Sacred fire place)

Los cinco elementos, el día y la noche, constituyeron los siete límites para el Yajñakunda (el lugar del fuego sagrado).



triù saÞpta saÞmidha×ù kåÞtäù |The five senses of perception, the five senses of action, the five circulatory systems, the

mind, intellect, awareness, ego, Dharma and Adharma became the 21 offerings into the

sacred fire.Los cinco sentidos de percepción, los cinco sentidos de acción, los cinco sistemascirculatorios, la mente, el intelecto, la conciencia, el ego, el Dharma y el Adharmase convirtieron en 21 ofrendas en el fuego sagrado.

Así los Devas realizaron el Yajña.

aba×dhnaÞnpuru×ñaà paÞçum |The Purusha became the Sacrificial animal.

El Purusha se convirtió en el animal de sacrificio (vaca sagrada).

taà yaÞ jïaà baÞrhiÞñiÞ praukñan× | puru×ñaà jäÞtama×graÞtaù

The Devas sprinkled sacred water on the Purusha who was the Sacrificial animal. and He isthe one who appeared first in the creation.

Los Devas rociaron agua sagrada sobre el Purusha, que era el animal de sacrificio,ya que Él es quien apareció primero en la creación.

tena× deÞvä aya× janta | säÞdhyä åñ×yaçvaÞye ||Thus the Devas, the Sadhyas (who are residents of Vaikunta) (The holy abode of Lord

Vishnu) and the Rishis performed the Yagna with Him.

Así los Devas, los Sadhyas, que residen en Vaikunta (la sagrada morada del SeñorVishnu), y los Rishis realizaron el Yajña.

PaÞçügmstägmçca×kre väyaÞvyän× | äÞraÞëyängräÞmyäçcaÞ yeThe birds, domestic as well as the wild animals, were created by Purusha.

trishtup, brhatee, pankti, ushnuk, anushtup and jagati.)

kaÞtiÞdhä vya×kalpayan |What did the Devas do with the limbs of the Purusha?

What did the Purusha’s face and shoulders become? ¿En qué se convirtieron el rostro y los hombros del Purusha?

bräÞhmaÞëo÷’syaÞ mukha×mäsét |His face became the Bhramana – The learned.

Su rostro se convirtió en el Brahmana (la clase sacerdotal).

bäÞhü rä× jaÞnya×ù kåÞtaù |His shoulders became the Kshatriya – the Warrior

Sus hombros se convirtieron en el Kshatriya (el guerrero).

üÞru tada×syaÞ yadvaiçya×ù |His thighs became Vysya – the businessman

Sus muslos se convirtieron en el Vaishya (el comerciante).



paÞdbhyägà çüÞdro a×jäyata ||The Purusha’s feet became the Shudra - the worker or the servants

Los pies del Purusha se convirtieron en el Sudra (el trabajador o el sirviente).

caÞndramäÞ mana×so jäÞtaù |The Purusha’s mind became the moon

La mente del Purusha se convirtió en la luna.

cakñoÞù süryo× ajäyata |

His eyes became the SunSus ojos se convirtieron en el Sol.

mukhäÞdindra×çcäÞgniçca× |From His face came Indra and Agni

De Su rostro surgieron Indra y Agni (Dios del fuego).

PräÞëädväÞyura× jäyata ||From His breath came the Lord of Wind

De Su aliento surgió el Señor del Viento (Vayu Deva).

näbhyä× äsédaÞntari×kñam |From His naval came the space

De Su ombligo surgió el espacio.

çéÞrñëo dhyauù sama×vartata |From His head came the heaven

De Su cabeza surgió el cielo.



paÞdbhyäà bhümiÞrdiçaùÞ çroträ÷t |From His feet came the Earth and the ten directions from his ears.

De Sus pies surgieron la Tierra y las ocho direcciones.

tathä× loÞkägma×k alpayan ||Thus the entire world was created

Así fue creado el mundo entero.

vedäÞhameÞtaà puru×ñaà maÞhäntam÷ |

I know Him who is glorious and …. Le conozco a Él que es glorioso y …

äÞdiÞtyava×rëaàÞ tama×saÞstupäÞre |who has the luster of the Sun. He is beyond ignorance

es del color del Sol. Él está más allá de la ignorancia.

sarvä×ëi rüÞpäëi× viÞcityaÞ dhéra×ù | nämä×ni kåÞtvä’bhiÞvadaÞn yadäste÷ ||He is the valorous one who has taken all forms and names.

Él es el valiente que ha tomado todas las formas y nombres.

dhäÞtä puÞrastäÞdyamu×däjaÞhära× | çaÞkraù praviÞdvänpraÞdiçaÞçcata×sraù |The One whom the Creator(Brahma) saw and revealed to Indra ( the King of gods) and ,

whom Indra perceived in all four directions…

El Uno a quien el Creador vio y reveló, a quien Indra percibió en las cuatro

direcciones…

tameÞvaà viÞdvänaÞmåta× iÞha bhaÞvati | nänyaù panthäÞ aya×näya vidyate ||Knowing whom I become immortal, I know not of any other way than Him.

Conociéndolo me vuelvo inmortal. No conozco otro camino que Él.



yaÞ jïena× yaÞ jïama×yajanta deÞväù |The devas worshipped the Purusha through this Yagna

Los Devas adoraron al Purusha a través de este Yajña.

täniÞ dharmä×ëi prathaÞmäÞnyä×san |This became the primary duty

Éste se convirtió en el primer deber.

te haÞ näka×à mahiÞmäna×ù sacante | yatraÞ pürve× säÞdhyäù santi× deÞväù ||

The people who follow this Dharma as mentioned above will attain the abode of the Sadhyasand the Devas.

Las personas que siguen este Dharma mencionado arriba alcanzarán la morada delos Sadhyas y los Devas.

aÞdbhyaù sambhü×t aù påthiÞvyai rasä÷cca ||From the waters and the Earth the entire world appeared

De las aguas y la Tierra apareció el mundo entero.

viÞçvaka×rmaëaÞù sama×vartaÞtädhi× |From the Creator of the Universe, Vishwakarma (Brahma) appeared.

Del Creador del Universo, apareció Vishwakarma (Brahma).

tasyaÞ tvañöä× vidÞadha×drüÞpame×tiHe after creating Brahma, entered the forms created by Him.

Él, después de crear a Brahma, entró en las formas creadas por Él.

tatpuru×ñasÞya viçvaÞmäjä×naÞmagre÷ |The design of the entire creation appeared in the beginning of the creation.

Él diseño de la creación entera apareció al comienzo de la creación.



vedäÞhameÞtaà puru×ñaà maÞhäntam÷ |I know that Supreme Person. ..

Conozco a ese Supremo Purusha (Persona)…

äÞdiÞtyava×rëaàÞ tama×saÞù para×stät |who has the brilliance of sun and who is beyond ignorance.

que tiene el color del Sol y está más allá de la ignorancia.

tameÞvaà viÞdvänaÞmåta× iÞha bha×vati |Who knows Him thus conquers death in this world.Quien lo conoce a Él conquista la muerte en este mundo.

nänyaù panthä× vidyaÞte’yan×äya ||I know of no other refuge but Him

No conozco más refugio que Él.

praÞ jäpa×tiçcaratiÞ garbhe× aÞntaù |The God is in action in the Universe

Dios está en acción en el Universo.

aÞ jäya×mäno bahuÞdhä vijä×yate |Though he is unborn, he takes many forms.

Aunque Él está más allá del nacimiento, aparece en muchas formas.

tasÞya dhéräÞù pari× jänantiÞ yonim÷ |Sages know His true form

Los sabios conocen Su verdadera forma.

Hri (Goddess of modesty) and Lakshmi ( Goddess of wealth) are your wives. Hri (Diosa de la modestia) y Lakshmi (Diosa de la riqueza) son tus consortes.

aÞhoÞräÞtre päÞrçve |Day and night are Your sides (shoulders).

El día y la noche son Tus costados (hombros).
