First of all, we want to thank everyone

who has worked hard to make this

production possible. We would have been

transported back to Charlie Chaplin’s

times without the sound and lighting

people. A lot of effort has also been put

in by our costumes, make up, and props

team to increase production points

to present this wonderfully colourful

show. Kudos to the marketing, event

management and publicity team, without

which, the show would be broke and sad.

This play means something to everyone in

MUSE, especially to us directors who have

personally wrote the script and songs for

it. It is a classic tale of an adolescent’s

transition to adulthood, and we dare say

is something that is sure to be relatable.

Watching a play can be said to be a lesson

as we watch how a character chooses his

decisions in life and faces major setbacks.

The characters are all wonderfully crafted

to show an authenticity that can be seen

in real life, while maintaining a comic

vibe for entertainment. We do hope this

musical, like a lesson, will lift you, inspire

you, and most importantly, make you

realise that the best things in life are

family, friends, and lots of fun.

FEIHONG navigate various challenges

with the spirit of the young while slowly

but surely maturing into an adult who

knows what it takes to chase down his

dream. Will he make the final decision to

give up or will obstacles make him want

the dream even more?

As his friends go through ups and

downs, unfortunate but definitely

outrageously hilarious situations, we

understand that life is nothing without

its mishaps, and that everything

happens for a reason. All we need

to do, is relax, and let life shade in

our individual colouring book while

maintaining our sense of humour!

Feihong is your average neighbourhood boy who has big dreams that nobody thought was possible to achieve He loves acting. He dreams to be a star. He believes with sheer perseverance and hard work, he can make the impossible, possible. Along the way, he starts to falter and doubt his passion. But with the support of his good friends, Sanjie and Siya, he picks himself up and fought on! Fei Hong is a coward in love. He dares to fight for his dreams but when it comes to confessing his feelings to the girl of his dreams, he lacks the courage. I hope to show how Fei Hong uses that cheerful disposition of his to influence people around him and overcome the challenges on his road to stardom. Fei Hong reminds me that obstacles are only there to stop those who do not work hard enough for their dreams.

Unlike his son, Guorong is a character whose feet are planted firmly on the ground. Years of vicissitude have taught him to be wary of lofty aspirations, especially those pertaining to acting. To protect his sometimes frivolous son from the pitfalls of life, Guorong raises his son in a stern and disciplined environment. However, when his iron clashes with Feihong’s own determined ambition, doubt begins to cloud his heart. He finds himself questioning the path that he has set for his son.

Playing Guorong’s character has been an incredibly personal journey for me, during which time I have looked within my own relationship with my parents. I hope that my portrayal of Guorong can be a tribute to the immense love of all parents, most importantly my own father and mother, and the trials and tribulations they have to face when raising us of which we as children are always incognizant.

SanJie is a teacher in a primary school and close friends to Siya and Feihong. It was his ambition to be a teacher when he was young. However, due to his introverted personality, he had to face a lot of naysayers.. I like how Sanjie forces himself out of his comfort zone to pursue his dreams. He is not afraid to stand up for what he thinks is right and would go through great lengths to keep his friends safe.

I found the role challenging as I had to be reserved, funny and serious at the same time. I found the character hard to grasp initially. With help from the directors and fellow casts, I slowly managed to grasp the character that the directors were wanting to portray. I hope you guys enjoy watching the play as much as I did playing Sanjie.

Siting is a confident young lady. She knows exactly what she wants and she is not afraid to speak up about it. Her love for music and drama is known to all including her mother who paid for her singing lessons. However, sleazy merchants tend to take advantage of her passion for music.

Being the biological daughter to her mother, she was showered with love. Although she is very pampered by her loving mother, she remains respectful to her sister, Siya. She listens to what her sister says and even defends Siya when she is bullied by their mother.

Siting’s cheerful character smitten Sanjie, but she was never really into him as she only saw the dorky and irritating side of him. She might just fall in love with him, if only Sanjie moved Siting with his charming side.

She might seem like a naive girl to many, but her unwavering courage to achieve what she truly love is very enviable for most.

Typical of the evil step-mother, these are what you will expect of Meilan. However, as the story progress, you will see the other side of her, one that cares and protects her family, fiercely.

No matter how hard Siya, her stepdaughter, tries, Meilan is not appreciative towards her effort. Although she is mean towards Siya, I would not say that she is not a loving mother as she shows care and concern towards Siting, her biological daughter. Instead, she does not know how to be a good mother as she does not know how to balance the amount of love she showers on her daughters.

As the plot develops, Meilan discovers and comes to terms that she should treat Siya better, in order to have a complete and loving family.

A filial daughter, a caring sister and a supportive friend. Siya is always kind to others, always putting other people’s best interests before hers, but finally she had the courage to pursue her own dreams.

It may be a predictable, oh-so-typical character but I do hope you will give her a chance and listen to her life story. I have enjoyed portraying this character, because there are so many aspects that I can relate to and connect with her. As much as I am afraid to admit this, we kind of walked in similar shoes. Don’t be fooled by her calm disposition, she can be very feisty just like her mother too.
