Schuylkill Leadership S chuylkill Leadership is a program designed and sponsored by the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the Schuylkill Leadership Association to ensure that new, able, resourceful and vigorous leadership will be continuously added to our community to understand the problems and opportunities we face in deciding the future of Schuylkill County. By seeking out and identifying capable men and women in the community and involving them in a formalized program that introduces them to the vital issues affecting our communities, Schuylkill Leadership sets a course for their active participation in community affairs to address the identified issues and find solutions for them. SCHUYLKILL LEADERSHIP“Leadership is a state of

consciousness rather than apersonality trait or set of skill.”John Adams, Transforming Leadership

OBJECTIVE Schuylkill Leadership enhances thedevelopment of community leadership byoffering participants an expandedknowledge of the problems, opportunitiesand issues facing the Schuylkill Region. Schuylkill Leadership offers a 5 month,10 session volunteer program of studywhich brings together new and emergingleaders from various areas and interests in acontinuing program.

PROGRAM With the entire county as the classroom,participants explore vital topics facing thecommunity. The curriculum combinesexposure to issues through informationsharing and practical learning experiences. The Schuylkill Leadership programincludes an orientation and a graduation at theconclusion of the program. The Lehigh Carbon Community College(LCCC) offers 3.1 CEU’s (ContinuingEducation Credits) for Schuylkill Leadershipgraduates. CEU’s are nationally recognizedunits of measurement. Sessions cover such topics as: communityand economic development; technology;government; Schuylkill County history/tour-ism; diversity; media; leadership skills; educa-tion; agriculture/environment; and organiza-tional development. Seminars are conducted by experiencedleaders working in each of the fields ofinterest. Seminar leaders encourage candidateinvolvement in the sessions as a way to gainnew perspectives on community issues.Programs are conducted at various sites throughout the county.

TUITION Tuition for the Schuylkill LeadershipClass is $775. Most participants will besponsored by corporations or organizations.Limited scholarship assistance is availablethrough the Schuylkill LeadershipAssociation. Tuition for a second candidate from asponsor is $725. Second candidates from thesame sponsor will be accepted only after allqualified candidates from single sponsorshave been enrolled. Candidates sponsoredby Schuylkill Chamber of Commercemembers will receive preference forenrollment consideration.

The Schuylkill Leadership Class of 2013 presents signage to the City of Pottsville for the Rotary Park Playground.

Playing with blocks is more than child’s play when it is an exercise in team building and

communication.

Tours of places such as the his-toric D.G. Yuengling Brewery’s tunnels and the Schuylkill County Court House are an integral part of the Schuylkill Leadership experience.
