    room temperature. ';ercise caution if the room temperature is warmer than 9"F.

    The GoodKnight /20 %vo!utiondevice is indicated for use in the treatment of obstructive respirator

    sleep disorders: particularl ,bstructive &leep Apnea ?,&A@. atients who have been diagnosed with

    this condition ma use the GoodKnight5" 'volution if the weigh over 77 lbs ?3" =g@ and are able

    to breathe spontaneousl. Their treatment ma be administered either in a homecare or hospital

    environment.

    &re%autions for use

    +linical research indicates that +A therap ma be contraindicated for patients with an of the

    following pre-e;isting conditions

    2 ';tremel low blood pressure

    2 neumothora; or pneumomediastinum ?collapsed lungGair trapped in the lung tissue or in the

    tissue between the lungs@2 &evere bullous emphsema or previousl complicated b pneumothora;

    2 Massive epista;is or previous massive epista;is ?nose bleed@

    2 Decompensated cardiac insufficienc or hpotension: especiall in case of depletion in bloodvolume or cardiac rhthm disorder ?inadeBuate blood pressure@

    8hen it is time to review the information stored on our GoodKnight5" 'volution: our home

    care provider ma set up a modem connection: which is a telephone communication device. The

    modem translates computer signals into telephone signals that are sent and converted to computer

    data that will be reviewed with &ilver2ining 3 special software.

    Che%(ing the %omponents

    To use the GoodKnight /20 %vo!ution with its specific electrical power suppl: ou must be

    provided with the following items at least

    2 A spiral tubing enclosing a second small transparent tubing

    2 A nasal-mas= ?often called an @ and all related accessories as specified in the

    instructions for using this interface.

    )n addition to these accessories: our doctor ma have prescribed the use of a humidifier. )n this case:

    ensure that ou have all the accessories reBuired for this humidifier: as specified in its operating

    instructions.

    )n the event that an additional o;gen suppl is needed: ou must also have an adaptor ?but onl in

    cases where the o;gen suppl is not fitted directl onto the interface@. Refer to the chapter . ?&ee page 4@

    +arefull e;amine the GoodKnight 5" 'volution and each accessor. +hec= the tubings for damage.The interface should not have an crac=s or distortion in the cup and bellows ?part of the mas=

    coming in contact with the face@.

    6erif that the GoodKnight5" 'volution and the specific power suppl module have no e;ternal

    damage: verif that there is no obvious fault. +onnect the device to the mains using the power suppl

    module: referring to steps 5 and # of the chapter . ?&ee page $@.

    The tpe of the device is displaed for a few seconds then the following standb screen showing the

    hour ?the value displaed is given as a guide onl@ E the devices displa should show the time in the

    5 hour format

    )f the device was disconnected while it was running: the screen displas the pressure. The device

    shows the same mode as at the time of the power suppl cord disconnection and is set on the pressureused at the disconnection time.

    &tart the device b pressing the &*&FFbutton ?see igure : page #@. The turbine should start up

    and the noise should be regular.

    To stop the device: press the &*&FFbutton and unplug the power suppl lead from the mains.

    one of the large ends of the spiral tubing: to the pressure port ?&ee igure 3: page #@. +onnect the

    large end of the spiral tubing onto the outlet connector of the machine ?&ee igure 3 page # andigure # page $@.

    Take care that the small tubing is not twisted or bent.

    repare the interface as described in its instructions for use.

    +onnect the interface to the spiral tubings free end.

    +onnect the cable of the power suppl module to the suppl connector located on the bac= of the

    device ?see igure 5: page #@.

    &ubstitute the following step for step 1 of the standard installation procedure

    2 +onnect the o;gen adaptor onto the devices outlet connector and connect the other end of the

    adaptor onto the large end of the patient tubing. ?see igure 7@. +onnect the small tube that

    emerges through one of the patient tubing large ends to the pressure port ?see igure 3: page #@.

    Installing a humidifier

    Refer to the humidifier instructions for additional information on assembl and safet precautions.

    &ubstitute the steps below for step 1 of the standard installation procedure

    1. +onnect one of the ends of the short humidifier hose onto the outlet connector of the device.

    ?see igure 3 page # and igure $@.

    . +onnect the other end of the short humidifier hose onto one of the humidifiers connectors.

    3. +onnect the small tube that emerges through one of large patient tubings ends to the pressure

    port ?see igure 3 page # and igure $@.

    Installing an e6ternal -atter,

    The GoodKnight/20 %vo!ution can be powered b an e;ternal 1-6olt car batter b using a optional

    cable provided for this purpose.

    CAUTI!

    The device can be used for 4 hours at least with a full charged car batter in normal operation

    conditions.

    To install the batter power cable: substitute the following steps for steps 5 and # of the standard

    installation procedure1. +onnect the batter power cable onto the batter suppl connector located on the bac= of the

    GoodKnight5" 'volution ?see igure 5: page #@.

    The GoodKnight5" 'volutioncan be powered through a vehicle cigarette lighter b using the cable

    provided for this purpose.

    To do so: replace steps 5 and # of the standard installation b the following steps

    1. +onnect the batter power cable onto the suppl connector at the bac= of the device ?see igure 5:

    A patient interface with hose should not be worn- unless the $3A3device is turned on and

    operating properly. The vent hole)s+ associated with the interfaceshould never be blocked.

    This $3A3 device is intended to be used with interfaces )orconnectors+ that have vent

    holes to allow a continuous ow of air out of the interface. 4hen the$3A3 device is turned

    on and is functioning properly- fresh air from the $3A3 device ushes

    the exhaled air outthrough the interface vent hole. 5owever- when the $3A3 device is not

    operating- ade6uatefresh air will not be provided through the interface- and exhaled air

    may be rebreathed.7ebreathing exhaled air for longer than several minutes could- in some

    2 4hen the device is in operation mode- check that it delivers an air ow. ,fthe device is not

    properly operating- stop it immediately and contact the home care provider.

    2 At lower $3A3 pressures- the ow through the exhalation port may beinade6uate to clear

    all exhaled gas from the tubing. 8ome rebreathing may occur.

    $topping treatment

    8hen the device is operating: follow the instructions below to discontinue the treatment

    1. )f ou are using o;gen: stop the flow now.

    -. Remove the interface ?nasal mas=@.

    3. )f ou are using a heatedhumidifier: turn it off according to the instructions for use. Disconnect

    the humidifier from the unit.

    5. Turn the device off b pressing the &*&FFbutton. The device will return to standb mode and

    displa the following standb screen showing the time

    The starting ramp pressure value can then be changed b using the &*&FF=e ?up@and Ra4p=e

    ?down@.

    The ramp function enables gradual increases in the delivered pressure. The pressure level ma be

    decreased at nightfall to help ou to fall asleep. (ou can also use this function if ou have to get up

    during the night and have difficult going bac= to sleep. The pressure rise time up to the final

    pressure is prescribed b our phsician and the setting carried out b our home care provider is

    between " ?no progressive rise@ and 3" minutes: in #-minute increments. The ramp ma have been

    preset to ": according to our phsicians prescription. )n this case: the ramp function is disabled: and

    pressing the Ramp button on the front panel of the GoodKnight5"& has no effect. ?see Reference 3

    in igure : page #@.

    1. To start the ramp: Cust press the Ramp button when the device is on. The pressure will decrease

    to a low set value: then increase progressivel up to the prescribed pressure level: so ou wontbe awa=ened. The device will run normall: delivering a treatment pressure throughout the night:

    unless ou press the Ramp button again: in which case the pressure will drop down again to the

    ramp level that ou have selected.

    . To end the ramp: press the Ramp button again and the function will be disabled. )t is possible to

    reset the ramp time b reactivating the ramp function ?the ramp indicator lights up when this is

    activated@.

    2 Do not use a spray cleaner. This is because residues may lodge in the

    air outlet- the foam1lter- or inside the device. This can cause irritation of the airways.

    2 Do not allow water to run onto the GoodKnight !" #volution- ordrip into any of its

    openings.

    2 9ever use the GoodKnight !" #volution without verifying that the 1lterhas been installed.

    Air inlet filters
