Getting pigs off to the right start is paramount to their ultimate performance in the show ring. First Wean™ 219 pre-starter is an extremely complex and palatable feed that bridges the gap between liquid sow’s milk to a solid diet. First Wean™ 319 pig starter feed is a Phase 2 complex starter that keeps the young showpig developing and headed in the right direction.

First Wean™ 519 pig starter feed is designed for pigs weighing at least 25 lbs. First Wean™ 519 pig starter feed can also be fed as an receiving feed for newly purchased young showpigs, as well as a “prep” feed for young prospective sale pigs. It is critical to medicate pigs when first purchased especially when buying from multiple breeders.

The health of the pig is paramount. A healthy pig will be more feed efficient and have a much better appearance.

Feed IntakeYoung pigs from 40 to 100 lbs will eat about 5% of their bodyweight per day. Gut fill is the primary determining factor in voluntary intake prior to about 100 lbs.

Once hormonal changes occur at about 100 lbs, energy (calorie) density becomes the determining factor. Feed intake expressed as a percent of bodyweight past 100 lbs is not a viable measure. Below is a table for suggested daily feeding rates for the Purina® Honor® Show Chow® pig feeds:

We suggest hand feeding by dividing the total daily amount into two equal meals per day fed about 11 to 12 hours apart. Be consistent feeding the same time every morning and same time every evening.
