I anticipate the risks

sometime, on the road, you can encounter some situations that can represent a danger (broken down car, crossing animal, group of walkers). There are several ways to indicate these dangers to the other road users. Can you quote some of them?

some dangers on the road…

Observe this picture and circle the different ways to warn the users that there is a danger.

indicate the risk for a better anticipationThere are various ways of warning the road users about a high-risk situation. It’s very important to be able to recognize and to use them.

For each risk...Connect the risks with the better way to warn the road users!

Have you already taken public transport? if so, which ones? do you know some safety rules to observe when traveling by the bus or the tramway?

I use public transport

Observe and describe Lea’s behaviour in one sentence.

To be a good passenger

Wait quietly the bus on the pavement near the reserved stop.

Get in quietly without hustling the other people.

Travel calmly seated or upright (holding the bar) without disturbing either the other users or the driver.

Get down quietly from the bus and wait until it left to cross the roadway in full safety.

A bus trip

Lea’s teacher prepared a small questionnaire in order to see whether her pupils are ready for a bus trip. Do you think you could answer it correctly?

A bus trip…

1 . The bus is coming: where are you? I’m on the pavement playing with my friends.

I’m lined up, close to the bus stop and I wait until the teacher tells me to get in.

I’m on the edge of the pavement reading a book.

2 . it’s time to get in the bus You push your friends and the passengers who were already inside to take the seated places.

You get in the bus, you sit down and you put your bag down on the aisle.

You get in quietly and you settle in a seat, if there’s a free one, either you stay upright holding the bar.

3 . during the trip You stay seated on your seat, you are calm and you don’t disturb the driver, or the other passengers.

You are upright in the central aisle but you don’t hold the bar, there is no risk.

You sing in the bottom of the bus with your friends and you move to ask things to the teacher.

3 . The trip finishes You rush to be the first to get out before the doors close again.

You wait for the teacher’s sign to get down.

You stay at your place, you’ve just seated!

..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

sometimes the weather is not ideal to move on the road. Can you quote some examples of difficult climatic conditions? According to you, what is necessary to move in full safety, even when the weather is not nice?

I adapt to the weather

An all-weather street…

Observe and explain in one sentence what you think being dangerous in the following pictures.

Read the article and answer the questions making sentences.

At each weather its dangers and its safety rules

A newspaper article

Extract of the local newspaper of Renault-City.“Yesterday, around 6PM, an accident occurred on Republic Square. A car’s driver only just avoided a cyclist whom he saw only at the last moment because of the fog and the rain. He skidded on the wet roadway and struck a lamppost. «Next time, I will not forget to wear my reflective waistcoat!», the cyclist said to our journalist. Everyone was scared and promised itself to always stay very vigilant.”

1. What was the weather like the day of the accident?

2. Why did the car skid on the road?

3. Why didn’t the driver see the cyclist?

4. What did the cyclist should have worn?

5. Which advice could you give to the driver of the car so that it wouldn’t happen again? And to the cyclist?

I ask myself

I keep in mind

I train
