Dear
4 July 2019
Dear Parents
Welcome back to School We start Term 3 with a fresh new look to our Punggol View Quarterly! We hope that
your child / children have had a meaningful June vacation spending quality time with
family and friends. We hope that they have also used their time wisely to catch up
on school work so that they are ready and recharged for the new semester. The
first semester has been an exciting one and we ended on a high note with the Parent-
Teacher-Child Conference on 29 and 30 May 2019. We thank you for your support.
As we gear up for another exciting semester, let us take stock of what has been and
will be happening in the school.
Parents Gateway
With effect from Term 3, all our notifications and consent forms will be posted via
Parents Gateway (PG). This is the also the first issue of the Punggol View Quarterly
posted on PG. To ensure that you are kept updated on what’s happening in the school,
please take time to read the Quarterly. Unlike the hardcopy version where you are
requested to acknowledge that you have noted the contents, the acknowledgement
via PG will automatically be captured once you open the notification. PG allows for
more convenient access for parents to all our school notifications and consent forms
at your fingertips. You can easily check past notifications and consent given through
the PG App. If you have children studying in different MOE schools, all their
notifications will also be consolidated into the PG app. Moving forward, MOE will be
adding more functionality into the PG app for your added convenience. For example,
with PG, you are able to make travel declarations conveniently for your children at
any time. If you have changed your contact number, you can also quickly update it in
PG under “Profile” and “Edit Contact Details”. Your new number will be automatically
updated into the school and MOE database!

Managing Internet Use While some students may have used the internet to
complement their school work, for example, doing
research online, time spent on the internet must still
be monitored closely. We need the support of parents
to reinforce good online habits and heighten cyber
wellness awareness to your children. We have also
uploaded some tips on managing internet use onto our
website and Facebook page in June. Do take a look.
Parents can encourage your children to be responsible digital users using the
following model:
Sense Identify possible risks of harmful online behaviours and learn
how to protect themselves.
Think Analyse, evaluate and reflect on the online situation based on the
3 CW guiding principles.
Act Translate understanding into actions so as to be safe and have a
positive online presence.

wellness education at home, visit https://ictconnection.moe.edu.sg/cyber-
wellness/for-parents
Instilling Social Responsibility through Community (VIA)
In May 2019, we sent out a letter (PGVP/145/2019) to encourage all our students
to serve our community needs beyond the school. We hope that this initiative has
inspired you and your family to think of ways to give back to the community. We
are heartened to note that parents have contributed much time and effort into
voluntary work with the whole family. This is an excellent platform for parents to
role model school values and promote family bonding. We are heartened to hear
many great ideas some parents have shared. We look forward to hearing more
from you about the ways in which you have used this platform.
6
Do note that when your child offers his/her service beyond school, please ask the
organisation for a letter of acknowledgement, giving a simple description of the
service and the duration of the service provided. In this way, his/her service
learning will be acknowledged and recorded into our school system.
Upcoming Events in Term 3
Please refer to the attached Calendar of Events for a summary of our Term 3 school
activities. In the meantime, we want to highlight some of the events to you below.
Racial Harmony Day 2019:
The school will be commemorating Racial Harmony Day (RHD) on Friday, 19 July 2019.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “The Singapore Connection”. As we
commemorate Singapore’s bicentennial, we reflect on our shared experiences and
values that have connected us as Singaporeans and consider how we can empower our
younger generation to remain open and inclusive even as our society becomes
increasingly complex. On this day, our students will reflect on and celebrate
Singapore as a harmonious society built on a rich diversity of cultures. RHD serves
as a reminder that promoting social cohesion and racial harmony requires
collaborative efforts from each and every one of us thus we should appreciate the
different cultures that make up Singapore.
National Education (NE) Show 2019 – Celebrating Singapore’s 54th Birthday:
The National Day Parade (NDP) is an annual national ceremony held on 9 August to
commemorate and celebrate Singapore’s independence. The theme for the National
Day Parade (NDP) 2019 is “Our Singapore”. The theme commemorates our Singapore
Bicentennial and allows us to tell Our Singapore story from past to present. “Our”
emphasises the collective ownership of Singapore. We are living the dreams of our
pioneers, and we are now the pioneers of our future. To provide a unifying experience
and to help students understand the significance of our National Day, all our P5
students will attend the annual NE Show. This year, our P5 students will attend the
NE Show on Saturday, 13 July 2019 at The Padang. (A separate notification will
be issued nearer the date to elaborate on the confirmed schedule for the event).
For more information on NDP2019, please log on to https://www.ndp.org.sg
7
National Day 2019 Observance Ceremony / Lower Primary Games Day:
The school will be commemorating National Day on Thursday, 8 August 2019, with a
National Day Observance Ceremony, classroom activities and a concert. The P1 and
P2 students will be having their Lower Primary Games Day. School curriculum hours
for 8 August 2019 will be from 7.30am – 10.30am. For P3-P6 students, classroom
activities / lessons will resume after the Observance Ceremony. A schedule will be
sent out nearer to the date of the event. Kindly make your own transport
arrangement to facilitate the earlier dismissal timing.
We want to allow students to celebrate Singapore’s birthday by coming dressed in
red to signify the unity of the Singapore spirit. As such, all students are encouraged
to come to school in a red t-shirt / 2019 P5 Camp T-Shirt and school shorts with
school shoes. Otherwise, they can also report in their PE attire.
PSLE and Examination related matters:
Support for P6 students
Please refer to the calendar attached for the schedule of the P6 Preliminary
Examination. During this last lap, our school will be adopting a whole school approach
to support our P6 students to achieve their learning potential. We will be continuing
and intensifying our R3 support sessions for our P6 students. We look forward to
your continued partnership to support your child’s well-being at home. Let us work
together to help ensure your child’s success in the PSLE.
School closure for PSLE
Our second batch of P6 students will be taking the PSLE this year. The school will
be closed on the PSLE Oral Examination (OE) days on Thu, 15 Aug and Fri, 16 Aug as
well as the PSLE Listening Comprehension (LC) Examination on Fri, 20 September.
Therefore, P1-P5 students do not need to report to school on those 3 days.
Student Care Centre operating hours during PSLE OE and LC
The Student Care Centre will be open from 1pm - 7pm during these 3 days. Kindly
note that apart from the P6 students, all other students will not be allowed into
the school before 1pm.
8
Absence from Examinations
Please note that if your child is absent for any paper or subject during the school
examinations, his/her absence will need to be supported with a Medical Certificate
from the doctor. We appeal to parents to exercise personal responsibility to refrain
from sending your child to school if he/she is unwell or has been certified by a doctor
to be unfit for school. A child who is unwell will also not perform at his/her best.
Rest assured that once your child returns to school, the subject teacher will make
arrangements for him/her to sit for the paper for the purpose of revision and
practice. The teacher will mark the paper and give your child feedback on his/her
performance. The marks for the paper will not be included in the overall results at
the end of the year.
Teachers’ Day Celebration:
Teachers’ Day falls on Friday 6 September 2019 and the school will celebrate
Teachers’ Day on Thursday 5 September. Students will be dismissed at 11 am.
Please make your own transport arrangement to facilitate the earlier dismissal
timing. We want to encourage students who want to show their gratitude by creating
their own gifts for their teachers (e.g. notes, letters, cards or crafts). We seek
your understanding not to give expensive teachers’ day presents as it will be difficult
for teachers to accept such gifts.
Mid-Autumn Festival Celebrations in school:
The Mid-Autumn is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated in Singapore. In PGVP, we
organise our annual Mid-Autumn Festival celebration to allow our students from other
ethnic groups to be immersed and engaged in the experience as well. This is part of
our school’s efforts to allow our students to appreciate Singapore’s diverse cultural
heritage. Our annual celebration is enhanced through our partnership with parents and
the community to set up many interesting booths and activities to engage our students
for a deep and rich learning experience. Traditionally our celebration takes place in
the evening. This year, as mid-autumn falls during the September holidays, our school
celebration will be held during curriculum hours on Wednesday, 4 September 2019. All
students will have an opportunity to celebrate and experience this event during their
Mother Tongue periods.

Class Allocation for 2020
Since 2018, PGVP has been making efforts to align our class allocation guidelines to
the School Based Assessment structure. Our Class Allocation guideline aims to:
strengthen holistic development, self-discovery and engaged learning,
better customise the teaching to a similar profile of learners in the class,
increase social diversity in the classrooms by having mixed progress groupings,
foster peer relations across different progress groups and reduce the
perceived stakes of examination and
preserve class identity by not regrouping the students at the end of each level.
Further revisions will be made to the 2020 Class Allocation guideline and details will
be made available in Term 4.
Parent Engagement for P4 Level (Revised PSLE Scoring 2021)
As have been shared during our P4 Parents Briefing on 13 March 2019, the current
P4 batch (2019) will be the first batch to experience the revised PSLE Scoring
system in 2021. To provide you with the necessary information and guidance on this
matter, the school will be continuing to engage P4 parents by providing timely
updates through our school notifications. Do keep a lookout for more information to
come your way in due time.
Safety and Security in the School
Drive-through car decal:
As part of good security practice, we request that parents who need to drive into
the school to pick up / drop off your children to kindly display your drive-through
decal on your vehicle windscreen. This will minimize the disruption of security guards
having to constantly stop you for checks. We have also requested parents who drive
to pick up their children from SCC to display the drive-through labels. For such
parents of SCC children who are picking up your children before 5pm, please call to
arrange with the SCC before-hand so that they can get your child ready at the
appointed time. Thank you for your kind understanding and cooperation.
10
Road Safety:
We need to remind our students to be alert when they cross the road. They have
been reminded to practise the kerb-drill. Do help to reinforce good road safety
habits with your children when they are using the roads.
Arrival/Dismissal:
We have received feedback that the pathway leading to back gate gets congested
during dismissal. We are looking into the matter and seek your understanding and
patience in the meantime. We have also received feedback that the footpath outside
our Punggol Place gate (beside the bus-stop) gets congested during morning arrival
and dismissal periods. We seek your understanding not to obstruct the footpath as
far as possible when you are sending or fetching your children from school.
Looking forward to working closely with you for the holistic development of every
child in PGVP.
Yours in partnership,
Mdm Sharifah Samirah
Vice Principal
