The Fastiques Rod &Custom car club, based inOwensville, held its annualbanquet in December.Fastiques is a non-profit

organization comprised of50 member families.Each year, the club honors

the many volunteers whohelp make its event, thePumpkin Run Nationals,possible.Proceeds from the

Pumpkin Run Nationalsbenefit many charities.

Last year, a check for$50,000 was presented toShriners Burns Hospital forChildren. To date, more than$580,000 has been donatedto the hospital by the club.Proceeds from the 2010

Pumpkin Run Nationals, tobe held at the ClermontCounty Fairgrounds inOwensville, will also bedonated to Shriners BurnsHospital for Children,among other worthy chari-ties.

The 35th installment ofthe annual Pumpkin RunNationals, the largest carshow in southwest Ohio,will be held Owensvillefrom Sept. 30 - Oct. 3.

The event, held each yearon the Clermont CountyFairgrounds by FastiquesRod & Custom of SouthernOhio, draws an average of3,000 vintage automobiles

and trucks from southernOhio and many neighboringstates. The Pumpkin RunNationals is a must-see forevery automobile enthusiast.All cars and trucks

entered in the show must be1970 or older, and each reg-istered car or truck willreceive a ticket for the grandprize drawing. The grandprize this year is a 1932Ford 5 Window Coupe witha 350 cu. in. Chevy engineon a rolling chassis built byDanny’s Rod Shop, with a350 transmission built byGil & Mike’s TransmissionService. Wheels and tiresdonated by LindenwaldAutomotive.While the Pumpkin Run

Nationals is the region’s pre-mier car show, it is also afamily-friendly event, withsomething for every mem-ber of the family.The Shriners are going to

have even more clowns forthe children this year,according to organizers, andthere will be games for bothchildren and adults, a modelcar contest, church services,Hot Wheels drag races,dance contests, and livemusic Friday and Saturdaynights.“The goal is to make it

more a fall festival and carshow,” Fastiques memberJohn Walters said. Fastiques is a non-profit

organization comprised of

50 member families.Proceeds from the PumpkinRun Nationals benefit manycharities. Last December, acheck for $50,000 was pre-sented to Shriners BurnsHospital for Children.To date, more than

new onsite parking, a newgate off state Route 132 forprivate vehicles, and newindoor plumbing.“With these improve-

ments, its just going to be amuch more pleasant experi-ence for everyone attend-ing,” Walters said.Registration will be open

The Northeastern LionsClub is one of thousandsof groups across the worldthat is part of theInternational Lions Club,with a focus on servinglocal communities, stateactivities and internationalprojects. In particular theLions Club is known forraising money to helpthose in need of eye class-es, eye exams and eye sur-

geries.The Northeastern Lion

Club is 43 years old,formed in 1967, when agroup of teachers andcommunity leaders gottogether to raise money tomake sure all students hadaccess to eye exams. Thefirst fundraiser was sellinglight bulbs, candy andwatermelon at theClermont County Fair.Those fundraisers have

expanded to a variety ofactivities, the largest beingthe annual collaborationwith the Fastiques Rod &Custom of Southern Ohio,Inc. at the Pumpkin Runthe first weekend of everyOctober. While theAntiques members pro-vide the leadership for oneof the largest car shows inthe region, the Lions Clubmembers host all the food

booths on the ClermontCounty Fairgrounds wherethe Pumpkin Run is heldeach year. This will be the31st year of this collabora-tion.As a result, the Lions

Club has been able todonate more than$500,000 to various chari-ties including theClermont NortheasternLocal School District; sixchurches including St.Louis, Owensville UnitedMethodist, MarathonMethodist, NewtonsvilleMethodist, OwensvilleBaptist Church, MilfordTrinity; the Ohio LionsEye Research; Ohio LionsFoundation; Ohio LionsEye Bank; Pilot Dogs; six$1,000 scholarships atCNE each year; ClermontSenior Services; ClermontCounty Junior Fair Board;Clermont 20/20’s Look ToClermont youth program;Radio Reading for theBlind; music camp forchildren with visual dis-abilities; and Sugar PlumKids charity at MercyHospital Clermont. Theclub members also spon-sor three children a year inHaiti with school tuition.

One of the largest dona-tions each year is made tothe CNE AthleticBoosters, whose membershelp the Lions Club eachyear at the Pumpkin Run.Depending on the year, adonation of more than$15,000 is donated eachyear.The International Lions

Club motto is “We Serve.”To fulfill that motto local-ly, the Northeastern LionsClub makes sure that anychild in the CNE, Bataviaand Williamsburg whoneeds eye exams, eye-glasses or treatments getthat help. Each year, theclub purchases an averageof 75 pairs of glasses andpays for about 50 eyeexams.One of the international

efforts is LCIF and theNortheastern Lions Clubhas budgeted $11,000 overfive years to donate.The Northeastern Lions

Club is one of the mostactive clubs in the state,with more than 60 mem-bers. Plus, they thank theirfamilies and friends fortheir help all year, butespecially during thePumpkin Run.
