Very individual in terms of number of different magazines. They only publish mixmag as far as magazines go, the only other thing they do is a website called “Don’t Stay In” which specialises in locating the best venues on nights out. This publisher could potentially be quite good because it revolves around the night life, which is something my magazine is going to be centred around.

“With Electronic Dance Music (EDM) having its own unique culture and arguably being the fastest growing genre in music today, fans need a media source to be informed of what is happening in the EDM scene. EDM Magazine was created to be that media source!

EDM Magazine is the first American magazine that is fully dedicated to the EDM Culture and provides millions of EDM fans with bi-monthly printed issues, Social Media Updates and Digital content to enhance their own EDM Experiences. Our readers get access to exclusive content featuring the hottest EDM Artists, future rising EDM Artists, EDM Festivals, EDM Clubs and of course, the EDM Culture.

EDM Magazine is the perfect platform for your business to be branded to this highly desirable niche audience. We can customize an exclusive marketing plan that will get your company noticed.”

This is the publishing house behind DJ mag. As a publisher this carries many of the same attributes and Dev Hell in that it is very small and exclusive. Thrust themselves don’t even seem to have a logo and rather than it being a multimedia outlet like Bauer, it has opted for a more concise range of mediums.

“Our company seeks readers and advertising for our magazines and seeks to keep them for as long as we meet, or exceed, their needs. We publish magazines, but we market advertising results through interested and satisfied readers.

We seek to apply the talents, knowledge and skills of our employees to make our publications and services industry leaders and be number one in customer satisfaction – and have fun while doing the work!

We further seek to provide better quality service than any of our competition in this ever changing marketing world.”

Publishes ‘elektro’ magazine. Seems to be very spanned in terms of genre. This lack of dedication to one specific genre doesn’t reflect the attitude of my magazine.

BauerDoesn’t actually publish any of the magazines I have analysed but I would still consider it because of how huge its range is. It also has a multitude of music magazines, radio channels, websites. If there were a reason I would choose Dev Hell over this it would be because my approach is more indie and a huge media giant like Bauer might give the wrong image.

Just a few music related outlets of Bauer just to show how music oriented this publisher is. Boxed in blue.

In summary

• A small publisher would better compliment the niche genre of the music in my magazine.

• A larger publisher, such as Bauer would mean that I could use more syndication, such as websites and more venue offers.

I think I’m going to go with Dev Hell, because it completely matches the anti-establishment feel of my theme. A large media conglomerate like Bauer would push that feel in the complete opposite direction.
