“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” by Dr. Suess
…So he paused. And the Grinch put his hand to his ear.
And he did hear a sound rising over the snow.
It started in low. Then it started to grow.
But the sound wasn't sad! Why, this sound sounded merry!
It couldn't be so! But it WAS merry! VERY!
He stared down at Whoville! The Grinch popped his eyes!
Then he shook! What he saw was a shocking surprise!
Every Who down in Whoville, the tall and the small,
Was singing! Without any presents at all!
He HADN'T stopped Christmas from coming! IT CAME!
Somehow or other, it came just the same!
And the Grinch, with his grinch-feet ice-cold in the snow,
Stood puzzling and puzzling: "How could it be so?"
"It came with out ribbons! It came without tags!"
"It came without packages, boxes or bags!"
And he puzzled three hours, till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before!
"Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store."
"Maybe Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!”…

O Holy Night
O holy night!
The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of our dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
'Til He appear'd and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks
a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees!
O hear the angel voices!
O night divine,
O night when Christ was born;
O night divine, O night, O night Divine…

NAVID: On October
23, 2020, Judy (Mary
Pearl) Navid (nee Flem-
ing) passed away sud-
denly and unexpectedly
at home at the age of 74
years old. Judy
was born in Wawanesa
on March 2, 1946, the
oldest of four chil-
dren, to Doug and
Phoebe Fleming. Her family farmed in the
Wawanesa area and continues to do so today.
Judy enjoyed growing up on the farm; read-
ing, horseback riding, sewing and working
alongside her parents and siblings.
Judy completed her primary and high
school years in Wawanesa. Upon graduation,
she moved to Brandon to complete her Regis-
tered Nurse‟s Training, graduating in 1967.
She began her nursing career at Wawanesa
District Hospital. The later part of her nursing
career was completed at Glenboro Hospital.
She also picked up home care coordination
coverage from the Souris Hospital. When
many think of Judy, they remember her as a
nurse. That smile. Her laugh. Care, compas-
sion and actually listening and advocating
when something wasn‟t right with a patient.
Judy loved being a nurse and it showed.
Her strongest qualities shone through in her
work. The people she met in nursing school
and on the floor were some of her most treas-
ured friends. She will be remembered as a
loyal, trusted friend. She mentored many a
young nurse.
Judy met Harold Navid at a dance in
Lilyhill, MB., and the two married on Octo-
ber 8, 1967. In 1965, they purchased a farm
west of Wawanesa, where they raised
their family. In the early years, life cen-
tred around farming and family. Judy and
Harold enjoyed socializing with friends,
family, and attending various community
events. Judy and Harold had three daugh-
ters, Carla, Shawna and later in life,
Amanda.
Judy was dedicated and focused on
raising her family. She continually feath-
ered her nest, even with adult children.
She always knew how to tend to people
and their needs. She was strong, reliable,
and a great comfort to many, but most im-
portantly to her husband, daughters and
grandchildren.
In 2016, upon retirement, Judy and
Harold moved into Wawanesa to their cur-
rent house. Leaving the acreage was bit-
tersweet for Judy, after calling the farm
home for 48 years. But new memories
were also made in town.
Judy was thrilled to become a
grandmother and travelled at a moment‟s
notice to Arizona to be present in the de-
livery room for the births of each of her
grandchildren. Payton came first, followed
by Haven and Jai.
With the grandkids and Shawna in
Arizona, and the fact that Judy was not a
fan of Manitoba winters, Judy and Harold
spent many winters as snowbirds in Mesa.
Through their time in Greenfield Village,
they acquired some wonderful friends
from all across Canada and the States.
As you can imagine, when Judy left
us suddenly and unexpectedly, we were
lost without her steady direction and reas-

surance. Judy is survived by her loving hus-
band of 53 years, Harold; her three children
Carla (Pat), Shawna, Amanda (Ryan); three
grandchildren, Payton, Haven and Jai; her
siblings Allan (Debbie) Fleming, Donnie
(Audrey) Fleming and Sharon (Firmin)
Desrochers along with many nieces and
nephews and their families.
She was predeceased by her parents,
Doug and Phoebe Fleming and nephews
Michael Fleming and Deryck Desrochers.
A service to celebrate Judy‟s life was held
at the Wawanesa United Church in
Wawanesa on October 30, 2020 with a pri-
vate family interment taking place at
Wawanesa Cemetery.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions
currently in place for gatherings, the ser-
vice was limited to family members only.
The service is available to view online at
www.willmorchapel.com.
Memorial donations can be made in
Judy's memory to the Wawanesa Commu-
nity Foundation, Box 209, Wawanesa MB

register book by emailing jamiesonsfuner-

we will insert your name.
“Grief I have learned is really just
love. It‟s all the love you want to give but
cannot. All of that unspent love gathers in
the corners of your eyes, the lump in your
throat, and in the hollow part of your chest.
Grief is just love with no place to go”.

Gardeners The Gardeners have been thinking
ahead to next season's garden already and
we're happy to announce the colors for
2021: Lime Green with accents of White to
show off the green. And we'll add just a
touch of fuchia for fun! The hanging pots
should be quite showy next summer. We
thank you all once again for your support
in a very different and difficult 2020 and
look forward to a more hopeful spring in
2021, blooming with color and renewal.
December has us all thinking of Christ-
mas - even though it will probably be much
smaller, quieter, and lonelier than any cele-
brations in years past. While we all enjoy
the flower beds and pots around town in
the summer, in this time of socializing only
with our households, I'm thinking it would
be wonderful for us to admire and enjoy
Seasonal lights and decorations as we stroll
or drive about the village this winter. .
Let's "LIGHT UP Oakland-Wawanesa"
and spread some cheer in these strange
times that we're living through. Let's all put
up something in our yards and/or on homes
for our friends
and neighbors to
see and enjoy.
Let's have a
Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas. I know this isn‟t the
Christmas edition, but it is still worth saying.
No matter what is happening in our commu-
nity or country, Christmas day will still
come and we will still celebrate the birth of
our Saviour. We can still celebrate the fact
that God sent His Son to earth to offer hope
where there was none before. Jesus came to
take away our sins and redeem all those who
believe.
Memories of Christmas usually in-
clude thinking of “the good old days”. I re-
member watching the Christmas episodes of
The Waltons or Little House on the Prairie.
People didn‟t have much in those times but
they did the best they could with what they
had. I think it would be a good time to con-
nect with the older generation of our fami-
lies and learn from their experience. Appre-
ciate what we have when times are hard.
Mary and Joseph didn‟t have much
themselves, when asked to raise the Son of
God. Jesus came as a baby to bring light into
a dark world. He still is a light for us, in dark
uncertain times. John 8:12, When Jesus spoke
again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the
world. Whoever follows me will never walk in
darkness, but will have the light of life.” We are not able to gather in the church
building at this time, but the Sunday mes-
sage is available on the Treesbank Commu-
nity Church Facebook page. We will start at
10:00 am for the month of December.
Please follow our page, that you may
get updates if and when we can meet to-
gether. Our regular programs such as small

I bet you‟ve noticed a change in the land-
scape! As many of you are aware, the com-
mission has started a project at the former
race track that surrounds the ball diamonds.
For a few years we have pondered what the
best option would be for this space that was
hard to maintain and a bit unsightly. The
ball diamond/ag grounds are getting used
more all the time, partly due to the fact that
our community lost a significant amount of
green space after the 2011 flood. We soon
realized the potential for this area and
started to have a real vision of how useful
this space could be all year round, with a lot
of hard work! We are fortunate enough to
receive funds through the Wawanesa Com-
munity Foundation from the Emergency
Community Support Fund. This funding is
specifically geared towards creating a safe
environment for people to enjoy some
physical activity outdoors. To date, we have
also received grants from Heritage Co-op
and Wawanesa Mutual, as well as private
donations.
The following is a list of things the Rec
Commission is considering including in the
green space:
A wide variety of well-established trees
Outdoor exercise/playground equipment
Walking trail
Sun Shade
Outdoor Fire Pit
If you have questions or suggestions about
the project, we would love to hear them. If
you are interested in contributing to it,
please contact Tracy @ 204-741-0421 or
Dustin @204-724-3988.
Thank you to Perry & Staff from

of Oakland-Wawanesa and Glenboro-South

equipment to get the levelling completed.
