Public Restroom Cleaning
4 Knock on door and announce service. Block door with cart so no one can enter while cleaning occurs. Wait until last person leaves before starting cleaning.
5 Inspect the room and report any issues.
9 Gather glass cleaner and glass cleaning cloth. Clean the mirrors above the sink and any windows, polishing with the glass cleaning cloth.
6 Look for sharps. If found, remove using broom and dustpan and put into sharps container. Never touch loose sharps.
8 High dust as needed, but not over visitors in the area. Use extension handles if needed to reach high objects.
11 Flush toilets and urinals. Force water over trap in toilet bowls to expose the water line. Apply bowl cleaner to the inside of the toilet bowls and urinals. If possible, spread bowl cleaner on the inside of the toilet bowls and urinals with a bowl mop. Allow to stand.
7 Remove large debris and waste. Replace can liners. Note: Never carry waste bags against body. If the restroom has urinals, clean debris from the urinal screens.
10 Spot clean visible soil from low touch surfaces, such as walls, decorations, and light fixtures.
Place Wet Floor sign at the room entrance. Place Restroom Closed for Cleaning sign on door.
3Gather supplies. Ensure cart is loaded properly.
Inspect & Remove
Spot Cleaning Toilet and Urinal
2 Conduct hand hygiene, don gloves. Put on additional PPE as required.
NOTE: Do not use the restroom cleaning cloth outside the bathroom and do not use on other surfaces after used on the toilet.
NOTE: Ensure cleaning cart is in restroom entrance so that it can be accessed without leaving the restroom.
NOTE: When using disinfectants, always follow label directions to ensure compliance.
NOTE: If you have any questions, contact your supervisor.
NOTE: If gross soil is present, pre-clean soiled surfaces prior to general cleaning.
Room Entrance SurfacesClean and Disinfect
Clean room light switch and area around switch on the wall.
14 Clean the exterior of the sharps container. Do not put hands into the container.
15Clean the restroom door, handle, and push plate (both sides).
13Gather the restroom cleaning cloth and disinfectant.
SinksClean the baby changing station, lowering the table if needed. Clean all sides and straps.
16 Clean the hand soap and paper towel dispensers, and other wall fixtures.
19 Clean the sink, faucet, handles, and counter top. Repeat for additional sinks. Use cream cleanser if needed for heavy soils.
Clean the exterior of the trash containers as needed, paying particular attention to surfaces touched with hands.
Urinals20 Clean the inside of the first urinal
using the toilet brush. Clean the urinal controls and the wall around the urinal using a cleaning cloth and the disinfectant. Repeat for additional urinals.
ToiletsClean the door handle to the stall and an area around the handle on the door.
Clean the call button, pad, and area around the pad.
25 Clean toilet seat, outside of bowl, and base. Using toilet brush, swab inside of bowl and under rim. Flush toilet and lower seat.
Clean toilet flush handle, grab bars, toilet paper cover, and wall area behind toilet.
26 Repeat toilet cleaning process for the other toilets.
NON ACID BATHROOM

Discard cleaning cloth, remove gloves, perform hand hygiene, don fresh gloves.
Apply disinfectant to both sides of the seat, flush handle, and wall area. Allow to stand.
Refill Inspect Floor28 Replenish restroom
disposables and hand hygiene products. Replace urinal screens or urinal cakes as appropriate.
29 Everything addressed? Anything not working?
30 Sweep floor, cleaning spots and removing gum and other debris.
31 Mop floors in restroom, finishing at the restroom door.
Inspect work, fill out checklist and initial form(s).
33 After floor is dry, remove Wet Floor and Restroom Closed for Cleaning signs.
3432 Remove gloves and perform hand hygiene.
