PRATAP PUBLIC SCHOOL, KARNAL Dear Parents The rich haul of medals by athletes from Haryana in the recently held Common Wealth Games and the sterling performance of candidates from the region in Civil Service Exam have brought Haryana to the forefront of academics and sports. 19 out of 64 medals that India bagged at the sporting event were won by sports persons from Haryana and three among the top ten rank holders – 2 nd , 3 rd and 5 th - in Civil Service Exam were from this region. This has amply proven that there is a volcano of talent ready to erupt if nurtured with love and care. All of these star performers have eulogized their parents for their unstinting support and inspiration, which speaks volumes of the vital role the parents play in shaping the future of their children. On a growing child, no one in the world holds as much sway as a parent does. Dear Parents, children are our most valuable assets. Nevertheless, they are also the children of the world of modern gadgets and falling moral standards. It is our bounden duty to guide them towards leading a happy and a meaningful life. You will agree that in this age of globalization and distractions our children are losing the purpose of their life. They are deficient in self discipline, and procrastination has become a habit with them. Virtues of honesty and obedience are alien to them. Let this summer vacation be utilised to strengthen the bond that you share with your children. Taking them out on a picnic or vacation and spending time with them will give you an opportunity to know more about their evolving personality, interests, aspirations and resolves as well as their anxieties and fears. Children learn a lot from their environment. So set ground rules at home, let them do their personal chores themselves, develop respect for food; spend quality time and communicate with them regularly, engage and involve them in making decisions - all these will help us in bringing up healthy independent individuals. Another area that I would like to invite your attention to, is the environmental crisis that we are facing today. Many parts of India are reeling under acute water shortage, there is growing power outages, spiralling diseases due to pollution and insanitation et al. If you could be a little more sensitive towards these issues and be judicious while using these valuable but depleting resources it would send the right message to your wards to be the caretakers of our ailing environment.
