Overview of the Proposed Application
• Dufferin’s land holdings in the area of the Acton Quarry total approximately 615 ha.
• 265 ha. is the existing Quarry and processing area.
• The extension’s proposed licence area is 124.4 ha, of which only 99 ha would be for extraction.
• The remaining 225 ha of land will remain in a natural state.

Public Benefits of the Proposed Extension
• High-quality, locally-sourced and efficiently priced aggregate for public infrastructure
• Dedication of land to the public for long term recreation, conservation and water management needs
• An opportunity to enhance the regional greenlands system, Niagara Escarpment parks and open space system, and local conservation space
• Careful balance of economic, environmental and social considerations

Surface and Ground Water
Sensitive surface water and groundwater features will be protected, improved or restored
•A performance-based Adaptive Management Plan is proposed to monitor and mitigate potential impacts
•Final rehabilitated landform / lake levels will protect adjacent environmental features
•Opportunity to enter into long term water management agreement to improve surrounding features

Natural Environment
Impacts to the Greenlands are to be minimized
• Minimal direct impact on significant natural features
• Ecological features with important functions have been protected and will not be extracted; real opportunity for meaningful enhancement
• A performance-based Adaptive Management Plan is proposed to monitor and mitigate potential impacts

Traffic
• No increase in traffic above current approved tonnage limit
• Excellent to acceptable levels of service projected
• Road improvements and intersection improvements (some already planned by municipalities) will ensure that the traffic impact of the Quarry remains acceptable.

Blasting, Noise and Air
• Proposed operation will comply with MOE’s guidelines for blasting and noise limit
• Dust will be within MOE guideline levels
