{ZEPHIA}: Dr. Debbie Harris-Rollins, Bertie County Schools’ Superintendent, Mrs. Sandra Hardy, Bertie Middle School Principal, Mr. Calvin Moore, Bertie Middle School Assistant Principal,

{CHRISTOPHER}: distinguished parents, dear teachers, fellow Phoenix students at Bertie Middle School, beloved guests, ladies and gentlemen,

{ZEPHIA AND CHRISTOPHER}: Good evening to you all!

{ZEPHIA}: My name is Zephia Sweet-Newkirk. I am a 6th grade student from Ms. Orbita’s Homebase. I am proud to be the child of our Parent-Teacher-Student Organization (PTSO) officer, Mr. Curtis Newkirk. I am one of your hosts for tonight’s occasion.

{CHRISTOPHER}: My name is Christopher Cherry. I am a 6th grade student from Mrs. Carlton’s Homebase. Like Zephia, I am also proud to be the child of a PTSO officer and a Class Parent Representative or CPR, Mr. Clarence Cherry, and I am the other host.

{ZEPHIA}: This Induction Program is one of the most important events of the year for Bertie Middle School. Tonight, our PTSO officers, class parent representatives or CPR, team teacher representatives or TTR, and team student representatives or TSR, will take their PLEDGE as a sign that they are making a promise to help make all Bertie Middle School’s students successful in anything that they do.

{CHRISTOPHER}: To our dear parents, the very fact that you are here tonight is a testament to the high scholastic standards that you are setting for your children and school, and that you are here to support us all the way.

{ZEPHIA}: Tonight is the night! It is the night that we have been waiting for. Our parents who we know are not only soooo busy helping us with our homework, school projects…

{ZEPHIA}: and of course, busy at their own respective work…

{CHRISTOPHER}: but they still want to do more – and this time - help us here at Bertie Middle School to become more successful in all our endeavors…

{ZEPHIA}: particularly in behavior and academics…

{CHRISTOPHER}: We should not forget, and I know it is worth mentioning… the End-of-Grade tests in Reading, Math, and Science.

{ZEPHIA}: At this time, I would like to recognize Mr. Calvin Moore, our school’s Assistant Principal, to deliver the Welcome Remarks.

(Mr. Moore delivers the Welcome Remarks.)

{CHRISTOPHER}: Thank you, Mr. Moore. Mrs. Candace Benford, Parent and Community Liaison of Bertie Middle School will now give us the Parent Corner.

{ZEPHIA}: Thank you, Mrs. Benford.

(PowerPoint: Ms. Hutson and the BMS Band)

{ZEPHIA}: Ladies and gentlemen, tonight’s program will not be successful without Ms. Hutson and the BMS Band. They will be performing a musical selection, entitled “I Heard It Through The Grapevine.”

{CHRISTOPHER}: Thank you, Ms. Hutson and the BMS Band. Please give them another round of applause.

PRE-INDUCTION CEREMONY:

{CYDNEY}: My name is Cydney Johnson. I am a 7th grade student from Ms. Bayley’s Homebase. I am proud to be the child of a PTSO officer and a CPR, Mrs. Pam Johnson. I am your host for the second part of tonight’s occasion.

{CYDNEY}: Mr. Gonzalo Pitpit, Administrative Intern, will now lead our Parents, Teachers, and Student Representatives in our pre-Induction ceremony.

MR. PITPIT: We will begin by calling our Class Parent Representatives to the center aisle. To our dear representatives, please be informed that you will be called by grade levels, and we will begin with 6th grade. Please remain at the center aisle until all names of PTSO Officer and Class Parent Representatives are called. Administrators and Teachers: please wait for the signal to pin the Volunteer pins.

MR. PITPIT: Bertie Middle School administrators and teachers, please pin the volunteer pins to our PTSO officers and Class Parent Representatives.

(PowerPoint: Parents/Volunteer Pins)

(Play music as administrators and teachers stand up; walk to their CPR (with Ms. Monette as first in line), and position themselves into the middle isle of the cafeteria. Administrators and Teachers: please wait for the signal to pin the Volunteer pins.

MR. PITPIT: Thank you. You may now all go back to your seat.

MR. PITPIT: We will now call our Team Teacher and Team Student Representatives to the center aisle. Please remain on the center aisle until all names of Team Teacher and Team Student Representatives are called. Administrators and Teachers: please wait for the signal to pin the Volunteer pins.

INDUCTION PROPER:

{CYDNEY}: Mrs. Sandra Hardy, Bertie Middle School principal, will now lead our PTSO officers, Class Parent Representatives, Team Teacher Representatives, and Team Student Representatives in reciting their PTSO PLEDGE.

{CYDNEY}: May we ask all representatives to please stand at this time.

MRS. HARDY: Parents, please raise your right hand, and repeat after me.

(Representatives recite their pledge.)

“As a member of Bertie Middle School Parent-Teacher-Student Organization (PTSO), I do hereby solemnly promise to pursue academic excellence for all students, to maintain high moral and ethical character and to provide excellence in service to humanity. Furthermore, I commit myself to faithfully and justly perform all the duties of being a ___(Please state your position) according to the best of my ability.”

MRS. HARDY: Congratulations to all of you!

{CYDNEY}: Our school and our community as a whole have benefited significantly from the efforts of important individuals, and one of them is Dr. Debbie Harris-Rollins, Bertie County School’s Superintendent. At this time, I would like to recognize Dr. Harris-Rollins to deliver her Comments.

MR. NEWKIRK: Ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of the PTSO at BMS, may I recognize Dr. Debbie Harris-Rollins as Honorary Member of the PTSO. (Dr. Debbie Harris-Rollins receives the certificate.)
