Monash Health Psychology and Specialist Services
Psychology and Specialist Services (PsySS) holds professional governance responsibility for over 180 psychologists across Monash Health Psychologists work across the lifespan in a range of programs including mental
health, acute and sub-acute settings, Monash Children’s Hospital and Monash Community We employ psychology registrars and have psychologists across a range of
employment grades with various endorsement titles. Clinical and Clinical Neuropsychologists are the largest areas of endorsement PsySS also has a number of operational responsibilities within Monash Health
including the aPM (agile Psychological Medicine) Clinics, the agile Comprehensive Care initiative, the Forensic Mental Health Assessment and Consultation Unit, Rehabilitation and Aged Care Services (RACS), the Wellness and Recovery Centre, and Acute Neuropsychology

PREPARING FOR PLACEMENT
Patient’s Rights
Right to Choose• Right to decide if they wish to be
assessed and/or treated by a student health practitioner
• Right to choose whether or not to act on, or comply with, any recommended treatment or course of action
• Right to be involved in decisions about the management of their health problems

Right to Confidentiality• Any client information obtained
(either verbally, from records or any other source) should not be disclosed to any other person without the express permission of the patient
• Medical records should not be left unsecured and should at no time be removed from the ward/department or agency
• Confidentiality is to be upheld after the patient is discharged, after the student placement is completed, and after the student has left university.

Code of Conduct

DRESS CODE
• Smart casual• Clothing must be appropriate for workplace
• Underwear should not be observable • ID badge worn at all times• Jewellery to be kept to a minimum• Hair must be appropriate to clinical practice• General grooming should be of a high standard• The following clothing is not permitted:
• Denim jeans • Track suits • T-shirts

require co-signing by the Primary Supervisor, or other psychologists as agreed.• Training modules for EMR (electronic medical records) available on Latte.

Things you can do to prepare
Familiarise yourself with the DSM-V, particularly in the areas you will be placed in i.e. psychotic disorders and personality disorders if in an mental health inpatient unit Speak to your placement supervisor about any pre-reading or
articles/documents to read prior to placement, particularly regarding relevant psychological interventions and case formulation Have an understanding of maintaining adequate records using DAP/SOAP
or other adequate medical records formats

DURING PLACEMENT
Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
• Electronic records are replacing in-patient paper medical records• EMR will be used to create, store and retrieve patient information, giving
the health care team access to accurate up-to-date information about patients
• Online modules are available on Latte for students to familiarise themselves with EMR before commencing placement
• Students can expect to receive their Monash Health login details (for IT use during placement), which will give them access to EMR and other required programs.
