Simple - be aware! ou get angry, you act like a machine. Someone turns one switch on and you launch into a anger, another switch is turned on and you start feeling envious, another person turns other switch on and you feel happy. If a person is not a master of what he does, if he acts without being aware of what he is doing, if he is not in control of himself, that particular action is unawareness. The basis of the pursuit of awareness is constant alertness. You may question how it is possible to practice this awareness in every day life. How do you put awareness into practice - at the store, in the office, or at home? As you can see, awareness is not a separate process. If you decide, “Henceforth I will perform my activities with awareness ” You will definitely be able to do so. But you will also need some patience to aid this resolve. It is our own mistake that we have truly perfected the practice of unawareness and therefore, even if we do not desire it, it keeps coming back. In order to pursue wakefulness, bring awareness in whatever you are doing. If you add awareness to your work, it will not be a hindrance; on the contrary, it will increase your competence at work - be it in technology, be it in process or for that matter people! - Excerpts from an article by Pujya Shri Rakeshbhai Jhaveri

Multi Modal Transportation - A Brief Overview

The most outstanding contribution of containerization is the suitability and capability ofcontainers for Door-to-Door Transportation internationally. A containerized shipment canbe made complete in all respects from one interior point(consignor's premises) in onecountry to an interior point (consignee's premises) in another country under a single contract, single freight and single document (ie)combined transfer document.

The single consolidated freight amount includes freights charged by all modes oftransport involved from the Point of Shipment to the Point of Destination. Theconsignment moves through different modes of transport (i.e) rail, road, ship, inland waterways or sometimes by air also. This is called multimodal transport orIntegrated Transport. This system has been developed and used in allindustrialized countries like the USA, European Union, Japan, Australia etc.,

In the year 1993, the Sovt. of India enacted the Multi Modal Transportation of 6oods Act based on the rulesframed by the International Chamber of Commerce[ICC] and also takes into account the provisions of UNConvention of 1980 on multi modal transportation of goods.

Multi Modal Transportation Document

♦ It is a contract for the transportation of goods by multi modal transportation.

♦ It is a negotiable document unless it is marked non-negotiable at the option ofthe consignor.♦ It is a Document of Title on the basis of which the holder can take delivery ofthe goods covered by it.

The concerned parties who have commercial interest and be governed by the document once it is executedare; the Multi Modal Transport Operator, the Consignor, the Bankers, the insurers. The Multi Modal Transport Operator shall be liable for losses resulting from any loss of or any damage tothe consignment and delay in the delivery of the consignment. The MTO will be responsible during the periodfrom which he takes charge of the goods till its delivery.

COMBIDOC and FIATA Bills of Lading

There are two internationally accepted documents in theMulti Modal Transportation viz COMBIDOC evolved by theBaltic International Council (BIMCO) and FreightForwarders Bill of lading [FBL] evolved by the InternationalFreight Forwarders Association (FIATA). The COMBIDOCis generally used by vessel operating MTOs while FBL isused by non-vessel owning NVO MTOs - mostly FreightForwarders.
