899-0022 2-day GPC/SEC Training Course

This training course provides theory lectures and practical sessions for modern analysis of macromolecules using gel permeation chromatography (GPC), also known as size exclusion chromatography (SEC).

It covers the theoretical background of this powerful separation technique, gives practical advice for reproducible and accurate analysis, and shows the application advantages as well as the limitations of GPC/SEC and GPC/SEC hyphenation with light scattering, viscometry and other techniques.

In the praxis sessions small workgroups (maximum 5 people) verify a GPC/SEC system, check the performance of the separation column, calibrate and evaluate samples using different techniques.

This seminar covers all aspects for working with advanced detection methods and instruments for the determination of molar masses, sizes, and structures of macromolecules and biopolymers in solution.

Lectures providing the theoretical background on (multi angle) light scattering and viscometry will be followed by hands-on training sessions on practical aspects and data processing for batch and online GPC/SEC setups.

Tutored discussions in small workgroups and a trouble shooting session ensure that all aspects of molar mass sensitive detection are trained efficiently.

Interaction Chromatography of Polymers

This course is designed for all analysts who want to learn about the separation of complex polymer systems which differ in chemistry and chemical composition.

It teaches the basics of different types of polymer interaction chromatography to be used for blends, copolymers and branched polymers, discusses the differences compared to HPLC of small molecules and shows the additional information gained when compared to size separations such as GPC/SEC.

Practical tips on method development, column, solvent and detector selection are given.

An overview and practical advice for the coupling of interaction chromatography with GPC/SEC to 2-dimensional chromatography concludes the course.

WinGPC Software Trainings

The software training courses are designed to give users of the PSS WinGPC Macromolecular Chromatography Data System (MCDS) a strong introduction to make a targeted and efficient use in the lab. It offers lectures and practical session (maximum 2 attendees per PC) given by an experienced polymer chemist with extensive knowledge about chromatography and WinGPC UniChrom.

Software training days are individually bookable per day. For a successful participation, a prior participation in the UniChrom basic training (899-0029) is recommended, but not required.

899-0029 Use and optimization of WinGPC UniChrom MCDS

In this software training course, users can learn more about the functions and possibilities of the Macromolecular Chromatography Data System PSS WinGPC UniChrom.

After an overview of the targeted use of different options and possibilities, these can be practiced in working groups of 2 persons directly at the PC.

This software training course is designed for present users of the WinGPC software modules viscometry, single angle light scattering, multi angle light scattering and for future clients using light scattering, viscometry or Triple detection.

In lectures, the strengths, weaknesses and synergies of the two analytical methods are discussed, after which the determination of the system parameters and the evaluation of sample raw data are carried out in small groups of 2 persons per PC.

The participants learn how they systems are connected, the creation of sequence lists, the GPC/SEC-specific control, the use of night/weekend control settings and the handling of logbooks and maintenance instructions.
