Psalm 22

Three different interpretations/applications !

1. Psalm 22 reflects some of the anguish and faith of King David. 2. Psalm 22 foreshadows the anguish and faith of Jesus Christ 3. Psalm 22 encourages us to place our hope in Christ!

1. The reality of suffering.

“We sometimes fear to bring our troubles to God, because they must seem small to Him who sitteth on the circle of the earth.

But if they are large enough to vex and endanger our welfare, they are large enough to touch His heart of love. For love does

not measure by a merchant's scales, not with a surveyor's chain. It hath a delicacy... unknown in any handling of

material substance.” !

- R. A. Torrey

1. The reality of suffering. 2. The hope of mercy.

“It is an unrivaled wonder of the gospel of Jesus Christ that no other god has wounds.”

- Os Guinness No God but God

1. The reality of suffering. 2. The hope of mercy. 3. The God who saves!

“When we look at the cross we see the justice, love, wisdom and power of God. It is not easy to decide which is the most

luminously revealed, whether the justice of God in judging sin, or the love of God in bearing the judgment in our place, or the wisdom of God in perfectly combining the two, or the power of

God in saving those who believe. For the cross is equally an act, and therefore a demonstration, of God's justice, love,

wisdom and power. The cross assures us that this God is the reality within, behind and beyond the universe.”

-John Stott The Cross of Christ

“Religion gives you rules: ‘Finish It’. Jesus gives you news: ‘It is Finished!’ That changes all the rules.”

- Justin Buzzard
