    Number

    Greetings

    from

    PNG

    Past experiences have taught us

    that the

    mission

    ie l d is u l l of surprises. And he last

    few months

    have

    eally been i

    l l e d with

    quite

    a few of

    them. We

    ave

    n

    fact

    delayed t he

    issuing of this newsletter i n order to p r i n t

    what

we hoped would be esolutions t o some

    matters that were "up in

    the

    air" n previous

    months.

    The

    ear

    began

    i n

    a

    a i r l y

    normal

    way.

    We

    were preparing f o r

    our

    annual meeting in

January. This involved, for the most

    art,

    meetings about he upcoming

    udget,

    agenda

    items,

and resolutions we would put t o t he

    group; plus

    the

    actual

    preparations

    of

    housing, meals, group gatherings, e t c .

    Our

    meeting

    was held January 11-13.

Surprisingly, i t went very smoothly

    t he

    shortest

    annual meeting

    we

    have ever

    had

    I t

    was highlighted

    by a

    day

    of prayer

    and

    sharing

    t o

    commence he

    meet ing .

    Afier

    the meeting, hings

    began

    to

    get

    back

    into

    the

    swing f

    things

    again. I have ound

    that a great deal

    Also,

    Ihad ome

    a

    result

of the meeti ng, which I

    began o work

    During

    the

    a s t

    ofJanuary, ur e r

    of

    surprises began.

    At r s t , we thou

    Bonita was ust

    But

    then

    her condition grew worse, to

    point that she

    couldn't

    get out of bed with

    much pain. The

    worst

    came on

    a

    weeke

    naturally,when

    t i s

    to get medical

    he

    After

    seeing the

    doctor f ir s t thing Mond

    she was dmitted

    into

    the

    and had

    surgery to

    About tha t

    Jesse

    with

    a

    are

    we

    Then

    He's

    He s a ot

    Toward he

    spent

    most o f

    he

    time v i s i t i n g

    and

    relaxing. It was

    j o l l y

pleasant," as they say around here

    sometimes.

    April

    did n o t

    begin

    very

    well, as Bonita's

    abscess returned

    and

    she

    had o

    have urgery

    again.

    This

    ime he abscesswas

    much

    eeper

    and the r e l i e f

    of t he

    f i r s t post-surgery

experience was eplaced by much iscomfort.

    We egan

    asking ourselves whether r n o t

    we

    ought

    to

    go back

    to the

    States for a more

    permanent

    reatment

    and are or whatever t

    was

    that

    was

    causing

    the abscesses. The

    prospect

    o f

    goi ng through

    the surgery every

    two months was

    o t

    very pleasant.

    But

    we

    had

    ixed

    emotions.

    The isruption t would

    cause in our lives in

    addition

    to

    the

    extra

    expenditure

    that the

    t r i p and

    surgery

    would

    require

    were weighed

    heavilyand

    r a y e r f u l l y .

    We

    ere n a uandary,

    o

    say he e a s t . This

    time

    Bo n i ta has

    pent a whole month going

    back

    and orth to

    the

    hospital

    to

    have new

    packing put i n each day~a eal

    drudgery fo r

    her.

    We finally decided

    that

    the

    decision

    to

    return

    was

    beyond

    us

    and

    we

    ought

    counsel

    from Dr. Dale

    Erickson,

    doctor on

    and

    see what

    this

    second

    treatment f xtended packing

    does.

    If t was

    just an

    abscess t hat

    didn't get completely

    cleaned

    out the

    f i

    rst t ime

    (which happens),

    then we're

    probably hrough with

    t . Please be
