Micro-engraver marks Facebook 10th anniversary with Mark Zuckerberg quote on 3mm letter F February 2, 2014 / by SWNS A master micro-engraver has marked Facebook’s 10 th Anniversary by carving one of the smallest pieces of art – on the tip of a 3mm letter F. It was talented Graham Short, 67, who sculpted Mark Zuckerberg famous quote “I’m here to build something for the long term, anything else is a distraction” in miniscule letters which are invisible to the human eye. It took the committed craftsman three months to complete the miniature masterpiece in gold after tirelessly working six days a week for over 300 hours. So, micro-engraver Graham Short wrote Mark Zuckerberg’s quote on a tint letter F for the company’s 10th Anniversary. This quote which was made famous by 29-year old Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is only visible by using a powerful magnifying glass and is only seven microns in size – smaller than a human blood cell. Graham said he decided to pay the unique tribute to Zuckerberg to mark Facebook’s 10 th anniversary to show how even the smallest idea can become a global success. He stated: “I don’t know if Mr Zuckerberg will ever see it but I hope he gets the chance to. We already have potential buyers but I would love to see this in Facebook HQ in California.” The engraver takes beta blockers and potassium in order to slow his heart beat so he can work on his design between heartbeats. He also works at night to avoid the vibration caused by traffic within two blocks of the Birmingham workshop. Moreover, Graham even schedules regular botox injections around his eye to keep his muscles as steady as possible while working with finely boned Victorian needles. Short added: “I work at night because even the vibration of a lorry going past in the day could cause me to make a mistake. I wear a stethoscope and try to engrave in between heartbeats. If I see a mouse, I have to go home straight away because I am scared of them and know I won’t be able to stay dead still when I engrave. I only have to move slightly and I have to start over from the beginning, the vibrations from a truck two blocks away will cause a mistake”. Facebook was launched by Mark Zuckerberg on February 4, 2004, while he was still a student at Harvard University in the USA. In 2013 the posted revenues of $7.87 billion (£4.8 billion), of which $1.5 billion (£918 billion) were pure profits. This social media site, which turns 10 today, has made Zuckerberg one of the wealthiest people on the planet and currently has 1.2 billion users worldwide. 0. Who is Graham Short? He is the engraver who sculpted Mark Zuckerberg’s most famous quote.
