Approximately half of Exterran’s 10,000 global employees in 30 countries have computer access, with roughly 3,200 visiting the intranet regularly.

Exterran’s outdated, unattractive portal was ineffective in providing useful information and reflecting/shaping culture• Strategic alignment hampered by near complete absence of employee

communications on portal• Virtually all news was shared via “all employee” emails• Time wasted searching through outdated information on portal• Inappropriate and non-standard use of public portal pages for team-

specific/confidential content

The portal’s unreliable platform caused frequent system outages resulting in:• BT Application Administrator troubleshooting (1 administrator@

5 hours/week)• BT service desk and other BT resources troubleshooting (3 resources@

2 hours/week)• Employee/user downtime (10% of total users@ 5 hours/week)• Plus outside customer downtime, data unavailable for sales

Exterran’s 2-person Corporate Communications team took advantage of the opportunity to:

• Improve design and usability of MyExterran’s home page intranet for employee communications

• Improve design and usability of MyExterran public and private team and project sites/sub sites

• Drive understanding and adoption of SharePoint
